    Re: Tonedexter

I just read the explanation on their website and this is fascinating. I’d love to hear one. I wonder if the wave map technology could be used to build IR’s for acoustic instruments.
    Unfortunately...

Re: Do i need an amp?

It kind of sounds like he just wanted to sell you an amp if that is what he implied. A Mandolin is an acoustic instrument. Any pickups or mics we use are in an attempt to get as close as possible...

Re: Show your Mando "Gig Rig"!

I thought this wireless was very easy to use and had great life on the rechargaeable battery. I did have issues with dropouts but only when I went to walk the room. There was other WiFi in the...

Re: Show your Mando "Gig Rig"!

So THAT'S who got the username I wanted. I'm betting you are likewise a Dan with a "G" last name. I have 2 jackets from different hospitals I worked at where my name reads "DanG!" and I always...

Re: LR Baggs Venue preset tips?

It really was a quality unit. I think it will serve you well. It's one of the few pieces of gear I didn't sell off when I bought a Helix. I happen to know wher eyou can buy a LR Baggs Acoustic...

Re: LR Baggs Venue preset tips?

The venue doesn't really have presets. I used one heavily for a long time and my method was:

    1 - Set it flat
2 - adjust notch and phase to kill feedback
3 - EQ to taste for the room/instrument...

Re: Show your Mando "Gig Rig"!

Here's my everything gig rig. If there is a PA with sufficient AUX I only bring the top rack which is wireless, Helix, and Wireless IEM. Everything else is optional. If they need me to have an amp...

Re: What’s going on with my Mandolin neck?

Thanks for all the input. I’m not particularly bothered by the drop off area now that i have seen all the responses. It was just affecting how I perceived the rest of the necks curvature. I did...

Re: What’s going on with my Mandolin neck?

Also, when you say dropping off, are you talking about the section past the neck joint? If so that doesn't really bother me because I don't really think I'll be playing up there any time in the...

Re: What’s going on with my Mandolin neck?

"A lot of mandolins with elevated fingerboards start dropping off like yours with age, I have two that have the same thing."

When you say with age, what kind of timeframe are we talking? It's a...

"If it's pitching downward from the neck joint to the bridge, this may be fine if you don't fret up there. A little relief can be okay. I think I would check the truss rod/neck adjustment. I would...

Re: What’s going on with my Mandolin neck?

That’s what was bothering me but then i was wondering if any relief in the neck occurs in the section between the headstock and the body meaning this is normal.
Here are a few photos from the side...

What’s going on with my Mandolin neck?

Is this a normal amount of curvature, is it in need of a truss rod adjustment, or is this some deeper issue?

Anyone else using a Helix? Got presets?

About 6 months ago I purchased a Line6 Helix (after years of skepticism about digital modelling and especially Line6). I think that the technology is finally good enough to make them a good...

Re: L.R. Baggs Radius Mandolin Pickup

I had considered trying radius on a resonator Banjo. I now have a spare Radius from my old Fender as I just received my new mandolin with a radius preinstalled from Robert at FolkMusician.com.

I'm not planning on buying upgrades. I'm planning on pulling upgrades off and selling them.

I will probably do as Belbein suggested and use it as a learning opportunity. I've been wanting to...

Re: Help with new mandolin selection

How would you compare the tone of the 815v with the tone of the km1000? To me the 515 was a much tighter focused sound which had its own appeal to me, while the km1000 was very rich in harmonic...

Re: Help with new mandolin selection

I have tried the Loars several times at several shops based on the feedback they get on these forums. The best one I was able to play (I think it was a 600, I never could find a 700) was a marginal...
