    MC classifieds: The Shue dropped!

Nice price on a Bob Shue mandolin. I like how his mandolins seem to have the wider grain tops. NFI

  2. Re: 1957 EM200 disintegration of tuner buttons

Of all the various repair/restoration tasks, I've always enjoyed pressing on replacement buttons (using method as outlined by Frank Ford). If replacing just one, it may be possible to age the button...

    Re: Can you teach musicality?

I have observed that timing seems impossible to teach to some. You may be able to hit all the notes but without timing, the hot licks aren't worth a lick. I wonder if someone is tone deaf, could they...

    Re: Gibson catalogs

I loved the "mandolin furnishings" in the catalog. Cool that you could select the various replacement parts.

    Re: Clown Barf picks available

I received an email notice today that the 1.02 mm picker were back in stock. I promptly placed an order for a quantity. I look forward to trying them out.

    Re: Reverb Gibson 2 Point

    Shouldn't have a flower pot.
  9. Re: MAS: Remember, it's stronger than you and there ain't no vacc

Last year I decided to rid myself of the electric guitar section of my collection. I found myself not being inspired to pick them up to play. I only play mandolin out but I kept the acoustic guitars...

    Re: Suddenly feeling old

From a recent photo and a 28 year old photo, I'm told I haven't changed a bit, lol! My shirt hasn't aged either!
  11. Re: How important is having the original hardshell case?

If I were to find two different examples of the same model in the same condition, I would choose one over the other (all things being equal) if only one had an original case. As others pointed out,...

    Re: Adding or replacing binding?

You could just use masking tape and paint a faux binding on it:) The econo guitars and mandolins of years past used painted on binding. I saw a Les Paul Studio recently that someone had scraped...

    Re: Suddenly feeling old

I like the button I spotted at a book store. It said: I may be old but I got to see all the cool groups.

I often feel that way. I play in a couple of groups where I am the oldest.
  14. Re: Virtual Shop Tour(s)... I'll show you mine

I'm jealous! It's very nice. My shop shares space with my wife's car as the depth of our garage is the full depth of the house. I have most of my power tools on wheels so I can make my sawdust...

    Fern fan here! Congrats!
  16. Re: What should I do with this interesting and great sounding man

I like the double flower pot! Unless you are planning to keep it for yourself, I'm afraid the economics would probably exceed what you'd hope to recover. This repair to fix the neck and take care of...

    Re: D'Addario picks?

I find that the Golden Gate tortoise 1.3 mm compares very well to the Thile/D'Addario 1.4 mm. Obviously less expensive to replace a lost Golden Gate, lol!

    Re: Clown Barf picks available

I just tried to order the lg. triangle shape in 1.03 mm and they are sold out. I find that the Pick Boy 1.00 mm fine for guitar but prefer thicker for mandolin.

Re: Old F4 Mandolin Neck- Bonus Cheap Body

It seems strange to me that someone decided to graft an F-4 neck onto a modern economy priced F-4 style body.
  21. Re: 1923 A2- To Drill Or Not to Drill? That is the question...

Very good info/warning from John Hamlett regarding potential damage tightening the viola clamp. The viola clamps are used on mandolin armrests so more commonly used these days. I made this little...

    Re: Eastman - back/neck separation

If Eastman uses a dovetail joint, it would look to be a poor fitted joint. Repairable but not a small job.

Re: F5 with an OVAL hole?

That's cool! I thought of building an electric mandolin covered in cowhide. Here's a tele style I made a while back with real cowhide.

  25. Re: Considering applying a compound radius to my One And Only

I had a radius and a refret done to my Gibson Fern. Not uncommon and not necessary to remove the fingerboard.
