Re: Strap for A-style (that old chestnut)

maybe this photo will help? I use an f-style strap for my a/pancake-model mandolins. I turn it around and use the parachord.

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

I had a Saab - late '70s. For a brief spell I had both. Saab got wrecked first in Denver, the Volvo got me to Seattle. Back then I only had my Kay. I did know about white-face Gibsons; however. ...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

My going-to-jams car for the last 15 years was my E320 Mercedes wagon. After 330,000 miles it got retired for a 4-door sedan.

    Loved my wagon!

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

    Volvo love!

I was 15 years old. I had a paper route and mowed as many lawns as I could. Neighbor three houses down drove my Volvo. One day, another neighbor boy (his dad owned the NAPA shop)...

Re: Strap for A-style (that old chestnut)

I make a loop of parachord at the end. Use the parachord between the tuning pegs - like pops1! Never thought to try the strap like that?

That's just what I do. Don't want the strap button...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

You'da loved my old Volvo! And, yes it drove to festivals back in the early '70s! I mean some mandolin content is needed!

I also had an Opal wagon. Two doors!

    Then we started...

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

I'm focused on Lindsey Road (Harvey Reid). I've played this in a duet for several years using my mandolin. Now, it's coming out of my octave mandolin. (Actually, I'm having fun re-tooling music on...

Such a well-moderated site! I do recall the white-face Rigel Q model. (Actually, who needs an arm rest I'll just put it on the other side with a nail sticking out of it! DIY baby!)

Re: String suggestions for flat tops

A250s are exactly the string gauges recommended for my Flatiron 1N. There's a sticker on the neck block and I went googling.

Not to rule out something lighter, that is!

Re: String suggestions for flat tops

I've always used GHS A250's on my Flatiron 1N. The only exception is I tried the medium Thomastiks (Mittels) and liked them pretty well also. Overall, I used the A250s.

    Re: A4, A5, F4, F5--what do the numbers mean?
