  1. Re: Interesting Mandolin- Cammeyer -the owner from NYC?

You think the parents wished he stayed with orchestra at that point? :))

    That's a cool website.
  3. Re: Do you think a Morris flat top would fit in this case?

So it doesn't. So hard to keep links working. Let me try again. The long way.

Looks great, love the shape. Very inspiring! Do you play other instruments?
  5. Re: Long term planning for 1st mandolin and uke GDAE in the meant

Maybe you can talk one or more of your family members into a road trip. Road trips are awesome!

Re: Post a picture of what's on your bench?

Looks kind of steampunk. 1930's? Amazing. I've never seen anything like that before. Can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done.

Re: Is this how it starts?

It does sound very nice. And very easy to play. The action is amazing.

I only wish I could play it for you without embarrassing myself. Maybe pretty soon.

Re: Assessing wood grain of standing trees

Hmmm. I guess I would define waste as using something at much less than it's optimum value. I certainly am not set up to process boards, but I guess if someone else saw significant artistic value...

Re: Assessing wood grain of standing trees

So one of the reasons for starting this thread, beyond basic curiosity, is this maple tree that my husband cut down in the yard. I didn't really want it cut down, but there it is. I have to keep an...

    Re: Douglas fir

I have something similar to this, but paid only $59 at Kohls a couple years ago. It gets the job done, and I can always tweak the color if needed in photoshop.
  13. Re: Is playing TABS detrimental to really learning?

I've been playing only since March. I know how to read music, but mandolin is my first stringed instrument. I like the music that shows both standard notation and tabs, because the tabs are helping...

Re: Is this how it starts?

Here it is, Morris #450 just built last month! So lovely, but in a way that is totally different from the Strad-O-Lin. I like that it is mostly made of wood that Mr. Morris got fairly locally: cedar...

Re: Still cant play a break!

I hear you. I started in March, but without the lifelong exposure and off and on playing. This is my first serious string instrument. I'm so impatient! Yesterday, though, after a hiatus in that kind...

    Re: Vintage Russian mandolin

It's pretty subjective at some point, as many have said. Of course, some of the people who have sampled many mandolins, like those who have sampled many fine wines, will have a more sophisticated...

It's gone. Wonder if someone here got it. It looked like a really nice mandolin.

    Re: Vintage Russian mandolin

I have seen some cool looking Russian mandolins, many Soviet era, on ebay for short money (not like the OP's instrument, more basic looking). I wonder what they sound like.

  22. Re: Do you think a Morris flat top would fit in this case?

This ended up in the wrong category. Not sure how, other than a lapse of attention on my part. Don't know if it can be moved. Intended to put in the equipment category
  23. Do you think a Morris flat top would fit in this case?

My new mandolin will be here tomorrow, and it comes in a soft case. I'd like to have a more resiliant one. I spotted this locally. It's intended for f-style. Any chance it would fit? What are the...
