Just went to check out some tabs on Jim's website, and get 404 notification.
    Is it still there? jimrichter.com

I paid for access, (had to have his Rain Song tabs), but now can't get there.

Re: 8 string solid body playability

A Practice Plank. I like that. Could practice at work without alerting boss or annoying coworkers.:mandosmiley:

Thanks kurth83, I like larger frets so the Eastwood could be the way to go. ...

Re: 8 string solid body playability

    Thanks all,
Mandolinstew, how loud is the Dillion acoustically? I was avoiding semi-hollow in favor of quiet late-night practicing, but I sure like the look of them.
My Godin is too loud for...

    8 string solid body playability

    Hi all,

Looking to get an 8 string solid electric mando, and would like opinions on neck shape, playability, fret size and such. No local selection, so would have to order. (Not semi solid as I...

Re: Ellis F5 Fern at Gryphon

Several years ago I was sampling mandolins at The Podium in Minneapolis, (now closed), and the owner asked me to be extra careful as the previous weekend they had been very busy, and later found...

    Re: Mandobird pickup hum-Bad ground?

Yes, the scratch plate is foil covered, but not the inside of cavity.
Still curious why touching/removing the one screw stopped the hum.

    Mandobird pickup hum-Bad ground?

I've had a mandobird for quite some time with no issues. Plugged it in the other day and had loud hum from amp. Tried different cords and amps, no change.

Touched one of the screws on the back...

    Re: K&K twin-preamp-guitar amp

    Thanks guys.
I got the K&K assuming I would need a preamp, but wanted to try it without one first.
I understand that I would get better sound from an acoustic amp, and even better from a mic...

    K&K twin-preamp-guitar amp

Apologies for another pickup/preamp thread, but there are so many it was somewhat confusing, mostly because I will not be running it to a PA, just to an amp.

    I've got a K&K external Twin spot...

Best brand of blue tack putty? There's a hundred kinds out there, and I don't want to damage the finish.

    K&K external Twin-EZ on/off method?

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a K&K external Twin, and would like to be able to move it between different mando's and my OM. Not for performing, but just for messing around with amps and...

    Re: Darkest pick

I'll second the recommendation for Dunlop Jazztone 208. Smoothest, darkest sounding pick I ever used, no click, good grip, and you can still pull out good volume.
Be advised though, the point wears...

    Mann mandolins?

    Hello all,

I've been bitten badly by EMAS. First a Mandobird IV, then a Godin, (and amps of course), and now I'm looking at a Mann SEM 8.

I haven't been able to find much info about them...

    Mandobird bridge saddle set screws

    Hi all,

Newbie to the electric side here.

I just picked up a mandobird iv for cheap, and one thing I've noticed is the bridge saddle height adjustment hex screws stick up a bit and tend to...
  21. Re: Beginner looking to Zouk: which bouzouki brands, which string

I second the recommendation for a Trinity College. I recently bought one, and it has an excellent sound for it's price. The tone is great for Celtic music.
It has a very long scale, but I think...
  22. Re: Best string set/gauges for Trinity College Bouzouki?

Thanks Zoukboy, it is set up GDAE now, and since I've played mandolin a long time, I thought I keep it simple until I get the feel for it. I may change to GDAD later. I may also go to unison pairs....
  23. Best string set/gauges for Trinity College Bouzouki?

I just picked up a TC bouzouki, and am wondering what strings sound the best on them. GDAE tuning to start, and I plan on keeping the octave pairs on the G and D for now.

The dealer gave me a set...
  24. Thoughts on Bill Bussman Octave in classifieds?

Looking for opinions on the Bussman Octave in the classifieds.

Has anyone owned/played a similar one and what did you think of it? Playability, tone, any insights would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
