191840Rebecca does some mandolin on their YouTube cover series and she really is a wonderful musician. I asked her what her mandolin was and she has a Duff that she plays mostly. She was intrigued by...
I have an F5 that’s 11 years old and the back is 100 year old walnut. It is a cannon. Loud and easily heard in a jam. Definitely play it first but walnut component shouldn’t be an issue.
Try Laps in Seven andCircles AroundMe for 2 greatalbums and then any of his New Grass Revival albums. Might grab an Emmylou Harris from the80’s when Sam was I her Hot Band. Top 5.....Gold...
Really nice Mark. I bet they sound as good as they look. Miss seeing you at Fret ShopJam.

But it is real hard to narrow to 3. Footprints in the Snow should be there too.
You will not be disappointed. I have Poe F #71...probably his last F build. 3 years old and just buzzing. I had a 2 pt of his that got me the bug and I sold my Gibson F5G to get that one made....
The Whitstein Brothers.
Wouldn't say if playing bluegrass you need to be a snare drum...not me. Get a snare if that's what you want, but I play bluegrass and if that was all I did was chop I would get a drum. Play the way...
So what we have is more of a "popularity" contest rather than a true top mandolin player? No knock on Sierra but no way is she any better than the others mentioned, Sam, Ronnie, Wayne, etc. and so...
One thing you might consider is that it seems like the Gibsons tend to lose their value more so than the individual builders. People tend to want to pay less for the Gibsons , it seems, than say an...
I actually have one listed in classifieds and they are excellent mandolins. I would definitely try one or at least obtain one with the understanding you can return if not satisfied.
Found that album in antique store down south in Alabama for $3. Got it home and pulled out record...Jethro and Red had both signed inside sleeve What a find and record. I would add brother duets...
Sometime in the early 60's, my Dad got me a Stella which I then traded up for a Harmony....then we really went up and traded for a 1918 Gibson A oval hole. That was it for me until the need for...
Well, sorry gotta go with grassroot philosopher on this one. That's two different opinions outta MO., so somebody else Show-me. What about Ronnie Bowman? Just to make an inference here, they don't...

The Music Barn, 15 miles north of PC, has jams, I believe on Sunday evenings. Check out the Gulf Coast Bluegrass Ass. website for info. You could always start one at Club LaVela?
It would be great to meet all members, but realistically I would say it would be ones that were in close proximity, F2 Dave, Rex Hart, and even Scott. Althoug I did meet Bernie Daniel at a jam in...

What venue did you order from? I think the old album "last of the red hot burritos" had the Al Perkins and Byron Berline crew on it but soem of the same songs. that's a must have for all us...
Lonesome River Band...Chronology I......gets betternbetter.
I have never understood the "chop" issue with bluegrass. I can do the dsame thing by completely covering up the strings or better yet, just get a snare drum. If you are just going to keep a beat,...
Only key I ever heard it in was D. My Dad was a fiddler and that's where he always played it....so that was the key.
Starvey Creek in July and September! Not sure which I like better, but I tend to lean towards the fall one.
Country Gentlemen from the 70's...Waller, Emerson, Yates, and....me.
