    Re: The home stretch

I assume this is probably the filler strip for the truss rod slot. It is important so the truss rod doesn't rattle around and can actually do its job. Some tension on the rod is good! It should be...

    Re: New Parlor GOM Build

I started out with it about 25% thicker in all the areas, compared to what I start with on a spruce top, so it was around .25" under the bridge down to about .16" in the recurve. When assembled it...

    Re: Custom Fretless Mandolin Build

Also I received a short video of the customer playing some Bach on the fretless mando. I will check with him if he is comfortable with me posting it. Can I post directly here or do I need to upload...

    Re: Custom Fretless Mandolin Build

I made several choices specific to it being a fretless, including shorter scale length (13"), tighter string spacing, and light uncompensated bridge. I also built it on the lighter side in general,...

    Re: Custom Fretless Mandolin Build

This was precisely something I was worried about as well but it wound up not being an issue at all. The notes ring out as unisons, at least to my ear and the sensor in my tuners!

    Bouzouki Back Questions

I just received a commission for a fully carved 26" irish bouzouki. I am going to use spruce for the top but was wondering if anyone had any experience with carved walnut back and sides. Or if anyone...
  11. Re: New A-2 inspired mando with stellar tone

I am so happy to hear that you like it Judy! It is fulfilling to know that it is inspiring you to reach for new heights. I know it is in good hands and will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  12. Re: An interesting hypothetical question...

Hahaha, I realized that as well. But that is the fun of the hypothetical!
  13. An interesting hypothetical question...

    This question popped in my head late last night after working on the finish on my current build and I thought I would put it out there for an interesting conversation;

    If, hypothetically, no...

    Re: Wood binding?

I have bound an F-style using rosewood and it went fairly well. The scroll was obviously the most difficult but not insurmountable
  16. Sticky: Re: Invitation for users to use their real name

Awesome. I was just going to try and figure out how to do that.
