    Re: New Eastwood/Airline tenor coming

    Nice.
I keep looking for a reason to get a tenor and Eastwood has some good ones.
My Airline mandola is a thing of beauty and it needs a friend.
  3. Re: Any recommendation on octave pedal to simulate a bass guitar?

Not an octave pedal but sounds pretty good.

    Re: Recommendation for an electric?

I've got an Eastwood Airline Mandola. Low price high quality.

    The mandos look very tempting.

    Re: Hora Octave Mandolas

My instrument really groaned in pain when I tried heavier strings. Bad experience.

Honest I just don't know. It's sounds pretty good otherwise, but I have an electric mandola that plays like...

    Re: Hora Octave Mandolas

I have to push down harder than I would like to get a clean (buzz free) note.
    Nothing wrong with the setup.

I'm older now and don't want to fight with my instruments.

A friend of mine plays it...

    Re: Hora Octave Mandolas

I like mine. It's well made all things considered.

Mine is hard to fret cleanly. Don't know why.
It can be done but it's a lot of effort.

Tuners work, but they are pretty bad.
  8. Re: Yet another string thread, but for electric mandos!

+1 for emando.com strings. They last a long time and are very warm.

    Re: Really Basic String Question

I just put a Monel A on a Phosphor Bronze set.

    I don't hear a difference.

Re: Is this too junky (ebay find lol)

I like my Hora mandola a lot but it's hard to fret.

Not my #1 but a very good buy I think. $120 or thereabout.

    Re: Different Plectra

Like all of you I have many picks.
Just one sounds right (to me) on my E-Dola.
On all my acoustics it's a toss up, but definitely just one on my electric.

I'd tell you what it is, but the name...

    Mando-tar !

I've been playing one since Christmas and I swear it's the instrument I've always been looking for.

    Sounds just like a mandola...
  13. Re: So... They seem to think I'm starving and homeless?

    FWIW

I'm wrapping up the busking season here in NYC (man it's cold).
I started in May and did it 2 or 3 times a week for the last 7 months.

I learned a lot also (as Chris Calley above said)....

    Re: I've Got A Feeling

According to my bathroom scale 3.2 lbs

It lighter than my Eastwood E Mandola & heavier than my Epiphone MM-30 mandolin.

It's has a solid feel to it.

    I've Got A Feeling

Hope it’s not a bad Feeling® (end of pun)

In another post I was admiring the Goldtone Mando Guitar when I realized that the Chinese maker Feeling made the same thing for half the price. I really...

Re: Emando players: What do you want in an amp?

Telling an amp manufacturer how to create an amp is way over my head.

But I always look for warmth and cheap in an amp.

    Re: Natural talent vs practice

When I was a kid (in the 60's) I thought the musicians I admired were special people touched by the gods.
I would never be able to be that.

Now I know they just invested more time into it than me...

    Re: Goldtone Long Scale Mando-Guitar

This is of course not proof of anything.

    I love mine.

Thanks for the links, but I'm not following what this has to do with Gold Tone Mando-Guitar.
What are they playing? Looks like a great instrument.

    Re: Goldtone Long Scale Mando-Guitar

    Thanks.
    I'll keep that in mind.
The jury is still out for me, but the sound intrigues me. So maybe early January I'll give it a try.
