Re: Future octave mandolin player question?

You’ll have to decide how you want to approach learning a new instrument. A year ago my first foray into instruments of the mandolin family was, and still is, an Eastman MDO-305 octave mandolin. It’s...

    Re: Customs fees?

Officially, yes, you’d be charged import duty on that purchase, although in practice it’s maybe yes, maybe no. Many of us have bought things and they’ve arrived with no duty owed and in other cases...

Re: My First Mandolin- A Keeper or keep looking

I’ve never worried about getting all my money back when I sell an instrument. If the going price exceeds what I paid then I’m golden. If not, I view the difference as the cost of using the instrument...

Lotsa staves on that page but if you digest ‘em one at a time before moving to the next you’ll be an official learner post haste. I like how you’ve done this.

    Re: Eastman MDO305 Octave

I have the Eastman MDO-305 and after 11 months, I’m pleased with it. I bought it, played it awhile (weeks) and then took it for a setup. I also replaced the OEM tuners with Rubner tuners. The stock...
  10. Re: Doug Unger Artist Mandolin (New mandolin to me)

At the Goldendale Pickers Festival last month there was a player who had one of those and I was thoroughly impressed by it. That thing sang and was clear as a bell and surprisingly loud, given its...

When you are serious about an instrument I suggest contacting the builders to get their take on tuning it GDAE.

    Re: Monroe Style Mandolin Question

It’s a great idea that’ll call for acclimatizing to it. I take it a few days at a time then go back to my Lakota Leathers strap (recommended!) for a week or two. As to how the mandolin hangs, it’s...

If it was you who got that Morris I’m gonna bet you’ll like how it plays and sounds. I’ll be in the market for an oval hole before long and Sonny Morris mandolins speak to me.

I installed Rubners on my Eastman MDO-305 octave mando several months ago and have been completely happy with the change. I left the factory bushings in place and they work just fine.
