    Re: Secure Endpin?

I'm not trying to be rude when I say please don't take this advice. Unless I'm dense and missed the sarcasm meant in the first 3 words.

I would also advise a single wrap of tape on the endpin.

Re: Bela Fleck and Chris Thile

    Oh my word.

What a treat to have these 2 playing together.

Now I want an album of this!!

    Re: Obscure, solid Mandolin Players

    Great thread!

    I'll second Kym Warner.
  4. Re: New mandolin question. (eastman, the loar, richwood)

The Richwood looks good, especially since it comes with a luthier set-up. Otherwise, sight-unseen, I'd tell you to go with the Eastman.

I'd be worried that the "The Loar" might discourage you,...

    Re: Light Strings

I'll join the consensus and tell you to just try it out, it's cheap enough.

You want to start doing expensive string experiments? Try violin strings. (Don't even try to complain to cellists or...

    Congrats!!
  9. Re: Banjo Ben Clark store, lessons and Eastman 515V

I've heard nothing but great things about BB.

I would think that purchasing an instrument and/or lessons from him would be good either way.

    Now I get it

Sometimes I've wondered why the MC didn't allow for political or social content and threads, as other sites do. Then I adjusted to the way things were on the MC, and thought that it was for the...
  12. Re: What price level and up gets you a "lifelong keeper" mandolin

I agree with all of this. I would not consider a 00-15 a"lifetime" or "keeper" instrument, but that just shows you how subjective all of this really is. Given that for you, I also agree that an upper...

Re: Kentucky 272 and my big problem

I'm not saying that your current infatuation will untimately pass/fade, but it will likely cool off a little. After playing your oval a while, you'll miss the much different sound of your Buckeye,...

    Re: New mixer

All of the reasons everyone mentioned is why you should definitely do it.

Also makes it easy to make adjustments in between songs, with your pad right there with you onstage, very unintrusive....

    Nice looking mando, fellow Texan.

I'm also "still fiddlin" which is to say still trying to fiddle. Love both mando and fiddle.

    Good luck on the project!

    Re: Need opinions Gibson Flatiron

Then why even bother chiming in?

The OP asked for advice, not judgement.

I thought judgement was saved for the Tone-gard, Bluechip, A vs. F style, and Chinese vs. American-made threads..

  20. Re: RSW's Jerry Rosa & The Mysterious Sam Bush Upside-Down Truss

If you or someone would educate me on how his repairs were incompetent (your words), and what you would have done different or better, that would be a help. I know that sentence sounds snarky, my...
  21. Re: RSW's Jerry Rosa & The Mysterious Sam Bush Upside-Down Truss

Did you not see the twisting and bowing in the neck before any repairs were even attempted?

Did you not see the mandolin repair, neck straight and legit relief, and the customer happily playing it...
  22. Re: RSW's Jerry Rosa & The Mysterious Sam Bush Upside-Down Truss

He took a messed up expensive Gibson and made it playable again. Clearly, the neck was screwed up.

I don't see what all the negativity is about. Sure, his personality could be an aquired taste,...

    Re: Question about Collings mandolins

Ummm...I would beg to differ. The Loars are great for what they are, but I've have never heard anyone (until now) describing them in this manner.

Having said that, to the OP I would add to the...

Re: Cumberland bridge on Loar LM500 ?

Read the rest of this thread for an answer to your question.

Or the myriads of other threads on the subject.

But I'll also answer your question: a lot.

    Re: Dr. Arm for Mandolin

If this is a true statement, I question its intelligence.

If this is sarcasm (which I suspect), then I question its effectiveness.
