    Re: Loars at Carterís

I am not sure what you are saying; are you saying that these are merely outliers? I do know that last summer several really nice ones changed hands for well under $100k, very quietly. I am not sure...

    Re: Loars at Carterís

Lots of instruments are not making it as far as the store floor or websites. Many shops have in store inventory that they have no intention of listing.

    Re: Loars at Carterís

The market for vintage guitars has always been stronger. Lots of non-players out there buying as well as ďthree-chordersĒ with $$$$cash.

And I know there are people who own multiple Loars who...

  7. Re: Looking for advice on best mandolins around 5K

Children, no matter what age, need to select the instruments that speak to them. No matter how good we believe an instrument to be, the player needs to bond with it.
  8. Re: Go to guy for top mandolin set up in Nashville area

Hugh Hanson did the restoration on Matt Flinner’s Gil. Matt was very pleased.
  9. Re: Looking for advice on best mandolins around 5K

Collings is probably the easiest mandolin brand to price. They no longer allow discounts on new instruments so their list price is their price, regardless of dealer. Used pricing, in good condition...

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

If you fiddle is slightly larger measure it to the case specs. It’s a pretty rigid case.

Re: Northfield Airloom Recurve with A-style

I have one of the earlier ones. Nice, but I like the newer one that came with my Big Mon. It's somewhere between the Travelite and the almighty Calton. For most folks, the Calton is overkill,...

Re: No frills vs fancier mandolins

I have played some pretty disappointing blinged out mandolins, and some great no frills mandolins. As for Collings, I think that they would beg to differ on spending more time voicing one model over...

Re: Amazing Nugget F5 at Carter's!

It’s a mandolin. Buy it, use it. If it were a violin, at that level of craftsmanship, it would be double or triple that price and no one would blink an eye.

Lol. P, the tone on an 11 inch is more suitable towards Adam Hurt style playing. The Flora is more Abigail Washburn style. So, neither one is going anywhere anytime soon.
