    Re: Dots or no dots

I also use the side dots only as reference points. That said, however, I love block inlays on the fretboard - I'd love to have an instrument with them some day.

    Re: Thank You, Collings

They helped me with tuner replacements on my MT also.. as well as an issue with my case latch (they got the case replaced). In both cases, the items were not Collings manufactured, but they made...

    Re: Rigel pricing inquiry

I sold my A+ deluxe more than 10 years ago for about $1200. I have looked around the web, and they seem to go between $1000 and $1500. I think $1200 is a good target. Much more, and you are...

    Re: Improvising

I also find that the ease with which one can follow the chords for a break and still approximate the melody depends a lot on the song. For instance, one of the songs we perform is a cover of The...

    Re: Improvising

Yes, THIS!! It ain't cheating to use the chord tones/positions as anchors for a break. Often the melody notes are in the chord tones, if not they are only a fret or 2 away from one. It really...

I was passing no judgement on the item itself - it was just the writing in the ad that caught my attn.
  11. Re: what strings do you recommend for a rigel mando ?

I do not miss mine (A+deluxe). Ultimately it did not have just the sound I wanted. I'm much happier with the Collings sound.

  14. Re: what strings do you recommend for a rigel mando ?

I used to use J-74s (before they were EJ74's) on the A+ deluxe I had many years ago.

    The Un Pequeno

The writing in this classified ad cracks me up. Makes me think of J Peterman from Seinfeld

    Re: Those other chords?

I've been reading a bit about modes lately. It seems like borrowed chords would fit into a discussion about modes (which may be where you are headed with Jazz). But I like the simplicity of the...

As of yesterday, I am the proud owner of a brand new Big Muddy MW-0. Wonderful little instrument. It's pretty quiet compared to my Collings, but it's perfect for solo fiddle tune playing. The...

I just shipped Fedex ground west to east coast successfully, and today received a mandolin by UPS that was in great condition.

    Re: Year old mandolin

My Collings MT is 7 years old. I play it a lot - there are some grooves in the frets that I'll have to have taken care of one of these days. I certainly don't baby it, but I do keep it in the case...
