  1. Re: Some help to value a couple of mandolins

Someone will chime in, but my assumption is not worth much. You likely will get scolded from conducting commerce on the forum:crying:

    Re: Next-generation Wood?

If you want it to sound like wood, why not, IDK, use wood? Perhaps we could expend human efforts to plant trees on deforested areas. Vast amounts of corn and soy fields used to be hardwood trees.

    Re: Mandolin Close Ups

I had a persistent buzz on my Weber...it was the hump from the neck block. The complete solution was to wait till refret and have the board leveled. I did have the buzzing frets leveled prior to...

Re: Mandolin Orange on today Show

I do find it to be the opposite of Thile, where he(Chris) is going out of his way to blow your mind. Buried in a Cape is an adventurous expose'(sp?) of Andrews chops.

Re: Mandolin Orange on today Show

I like it, but the vibe reminds me of the Cowboy Junkies. It seem a bit too "safe " for their abilities. I suppose the live shows are a bit different.

    Re: Is my MAS dead?

I don’t have a lack of mandolin desire, just a deficiency in money acquisition syndrome.
I have great instruments, but there are so many flavors to enjoy!

    Re: Who has thin bluechips?

Just got my BC TAD 40 today. If love it. My BC pic progression has been TP 65, TP 55, TAD 60, CT55( which is a TAD55), TAD 50, TAD 45, and now the TAD 40.
I’ve sold all the thicker ones, in case...

    Re: favourite strings

GHS silk n steel, & GHS silk n bronze
BTW the silk n steel is not a steel wrap, it's a silver plated copper wire.

I've been wondering why there are so few variations of string tech in comparison...

    Re: Instrument swap?

Great points JL. I didn't say my idea was a good idea:)
I did put that escrow could/ should be involved in the hypothetical exchange.

I want to clarify, I don't mean trades, just a temporary trial of another top tier instrument, with expectations of full return in exact same condition. Not a transaction, just a visitation.

    Instrument swap?

    Re: Who has thin bluechips?

I just ordered the tad 40, I'll report my experience soon. I was going to get thinner, but they won't accept returns on custom, and everything under 40 is custom.

    Re: Who has thin bluechips?

Recently I inquired at bluechip and was told that they can and will make custom thicknesses in finer than 5mil steps, so not seeing it on their site is not a limitation.

    Re: Weber, the best years.

My understanding of the stash was that it was more in the 50 year old department...? We can ask Bruce, he might be reading this, or Mary might. My "old wood" custom has 1950's cedar and 1970's...
