Re: advice on polishing varnish ?

    Hi Steve,

I restore a lot of old guitars and mandolins in my shop. My first piece of advice would be to find out from the builder himself, or from a seasoned professional what kind of...
  2. Re: EElectric Instruments vs. Acoustic Amplification

The hollowbody will affect the tone, I would strongly suggest the Seymour Duncan Cool rails as a pickup with 250K pots. Most manufacturing companies got it in their heads that 500K was the way to go...
  3. Re: EElectric Instruments vs. Acoustic Amplification

The K&K systems are great, I think they're the best sounding pickups for archtop instruments. I tried Fishman and Gauge pickups too, but the K&K are the best sounding in my view.
  4. Re: EElectric Instruments vs. Acoustic Amplification

Modern amplification technology just allows everyone to shape their tone, and be heard in any venue. In my repair/fabrication shop, I see a healthy balance, it's almost half and half between electric...

    Re: New Fender Emando

I think it's great that you can get an electric Mandolin with great potential in that price range. But, in all honesty, do you really think it looks good? I find it a bit tragic. Again, beauty is in...

    Re: The first photos

Wyatt really knows what he's doing, and he's a really nice guy. I met him at the last Montreal Guitar show. All of his instruments are beautiful. One of the few builders that inspire me, and push me...

    Re: New Fender Mando-Strat?

Can't wait to see one on my bench. Does anyone know if this is made in Mexico, Indonesia or China? I must admit that the new Mexican made guitars are pretty damn good for the money, and more...

    Re: New electric Mandolins

No offence taken Ron. I am curious to see how an 8 string would sound with my construction. The budget instruments are built like a Tele, no angles anywhere and built with a router and two templates....

    Re: New electric Mandolins

    Hi Ron,

There are quite a few differences between the chinese made ones and the ones I make. It's mostly in the sound and durability. Any instrument can be setup to play great, but the...

    Re: New electric Mandolins

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for digging all of that up. I'm currently building them as orders come in, but I can build anything. If someone wants an 8 string, or a 10 string, I will make it. I'll...

    Re: New electric Mandolins

Thanks Mike. I market them where I can. I'm in Ottawa, and I brought them to the Folklore Centre. The staff loved them, but purchasing never returned my calls or emails. I don't worry to much about...

    Re: TAMCO/Weston electric mandolin

    Hi Steve,

In order to avoid the problem you have foreseen in your post, the nut won't be exactly where the headstock shape begins, it will be where you would expect the first fret to...

    Great Mandolin Review

Joe Brent has a great thread going on tumblr. He also just reviewed one of my electric mandolins, and posted a great video.

    Rock Finish Electric Mandolin

    Hi Everyone,

After the madness of the glow in the dark mandolin, I made this one with a rock finish. I have to find some serious players to give me some feed back. Specs are:

I did locate a source of glow in the dark powder, which I could mix with epoxy and use for the dots. Right now, they are pearl.

Have no fear, no radioactive substances were used. You could enjoy this thing for years without getting lymphoma.
