    Re: Happened to you?

Years ago I received a cd from a friend, while listening to quieter moments on the tracks, I could detect nose breathing. The cd is good but after that, all I could hear was the nose breathing, lol!

    Re: Mystery Solved

I had a shirt ruined after a hot outdoor gig. My Saga James Shelton strap transferred dye to my shirt from my perspiration. I have another older original Shelton and never noticed any bleed from it.

Re: Advice for a pre-professional luthier?

Pre-internet days, I used to read everything I could get my hands on for repairs and builds. Over time I've found that some techniques that were taught or illustrated in some books are no longer...

    Re: Sticky armrest?

Best fix is to leave the armrest on the mandolin. I've got armrest on my 3 and they will stay on if I should part with one.

    Re: point protector material

I recall having a Gibson A-9 that had a Corian nut. It was rather sharp edged. I believe I filed the edges smooth before replacing it with bone. It is brittle.

Drew, it this a custom build?
  8. Re: What was your biggest challenge in making an F style mandolin

I'll agree with the others who say binding being the toughest. I'll only use celluloid as abs seems harder to work. I plan to build an A model when I finally finish my current hybrid F-4. I don't...

    Re: Who?

A recording engineer once said I sounded like Arlo Guthrie. I had a bit of a cold at the time.

    Re: Flatiron 1N neck joint?

I loosened the strings and sure enough, there were 2 bolts attaching the neck. Unlike Taylor guitar necks, the neck is also glued on. I was curious about the type of joint as I wondered how a neck...

    Re: Collings scooped fretboard extension

I've scooped both of my Gibson F5's, I also own a Collings MF, haven't seen the need to scoop it as the fingerboard doesn't extend so far as to get pick click.

    Re: Dec 18, 1980 signed Gibson F-5L

Here's a photo of the label, still looks like Rich to me. It could be that Rick Brown also went by Rich, it's seems unlikely that Gibson had Rick Brown & Rich Brown working there at the same time.

    Re: Dec 18, 1980 signed Gibson F-5L

I have an F-5L that was signed by Rich Brown on April 16, 81. I took a chance on it (Ebay) knowing it needed a little work. It came with a radius fingerboard that was installed by Randy Wood. I had...

    Re: R.G. Noyes' Octave mandolin

It might not have been clear to the moderators. Probably a good idea to say something about the ebay (or other) listing that you are sharing. Wouldn't hurt to include "NFI" as well.

I too have a key fob pick holder that is always with me. I have gone to a gig forgetting my picks but saved by my key fob.
