    Re: Custom mandolin Info

OP stated “New poster here, got a bunch of mandolins from an estate sale.”

Now they were “left to us in his will.”

    This smells fishy.

Re: Collings MT vs Pava A

You really should play before you buy to find the sound you are looking for. The Pava I owned was very sweet sounding, but on the quiet side. The MT I have is the best mandolin for me; it sounds...

Re: Update From The Mandolin Store

I only purchased a couple of times from TMS. Dennis was great to deal with - helpful, friendly and honest. I am sure those attributes flowed from his father.

Best wishes to Dennis and his...

    Re: Chinese made mandolins (Northfield?)

I have learned that everyone’s taste is different as every mandolin is different. It really does not matter much to me where a mandolin is made/assembled. It is the sound and playability that grab...

Re: What strings are you currently playing?

I try different strings (different gauges, metal, etc.) once in a while, but always come back to J74s on my MT and Thomastick Mittels on my old A2 oval hole.

Re: Jam with Jake Workman- Cherokee Shuffle

That was great! Speed and timing (which I struggle with) were excellent.

    Re: Collings MT Prices

I have have/had many mandolins (Gibson, Weber, Pava, Summit, Northfield, etc.).

My MT is a lifetime keeper! No better value in my opinion - the Northfield F5S is close behind as far as value.

I am not sure of your budget, but two great choices which would be:
    Collings MT (A)
    Northfield F5S (F)

An MT was my first really good mandolin. Many have come and gone, but the MT is like a...

  25. Lowell Levinger with Little Steven & Disciples of Soul

For an early Mother's Day gift I surprised my wife, a huge Steve Van Zant and Springsteen fan, with tickets to a Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul show in Asbury Park Wednesday night.
