    Re: Battle of Evermore

Maybe a Gibson oval A? Some should be within your expanded budget, if refinished or new bridge, etc.

I don't have any useful thoughts on pickups.

I've graded so many papers over the years that I can't remember which "its" it's is any more.

    Re: Looking for Sheet Music

That's a great site. You do have to be a little careful with the tab, as it sometimes translates wrong from notation, and gets the sharps, flats and naturals confused.

    Re: Carbon Fiber Mandolin Raffle

I've only won thing at a raffle, a large carved gourd I keep musical items in. I wasn't going to enter, but I changed my mind at the last minute and put an entry in. They chose an 8-year-old to...

    Re: Pandemic Reading

In his more recent albums Richard gets a mando onto 1 or 2 songs per album. There were also some tracks with mando in the Richard and Linda recordings.

I'm only about a third of the way through...

Richard Thompson's "Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice 1967-1975" - zero mando content so far as I see.

    Re: stand or sit?

Usually sitting to practice/record, standing on stage.

One instrument I can only play sitting is slide guitar - everything's at the wrong angle if I stand.

    Re: Help Transcribing a Piece

In live videos, Chris Funk is strumming chords on a mando - lots of them, and not too many changes (didn't grab an instrument to check out which chords, though). The tremolo part seems to be some...

I block strings I don't want to ring with unused parts of the right and left hands (bulbous fingertips on the left - I'm right-handed - have some positive features after all :)).

Egypt is associated with US locations in Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois, at least - any geographic connection to those places?

  18. Re: Open-back banjo recommendation for a mandolin player?

I'll second Mandobar's mention of Rickard. I've got a 12" Dobson, which has a nice, mellow sound, and a lot of sustain (sometimes too much).

    Re: Ads without a price

It would also be nice if those who are buyers rather than sellers would indicate that in the title. I've bought 5 mandolins in 40 years, and still have 3 of them, so I'm not much of a buyer. I love...

Re: Tips for moving up the neck needed

Niles Hokkanen (MC member Mandocrucian) has a nice book called Bluegrass Up the Neck. He discusses how licks and melodies relate to chords.

    Re: Double Stops Question

I use them all the time to accompany songs (a nice contrast with guitars playing full chords), and as harmonies in solos, and I don't play much bluegrass.
