    Re: Ceccherini - desperately seeking

BTW, Nick, I have a "Michigan" labeled 8-string banjo mandolin that I bought up North here. I thought it would be fun to have along with my Michoacan-made mandolin from Paracho.

    I know, it's...

    Thanks, Martin.

I know this is a topic that has come up here a few times and I only brought it up again to see if any new information might have arisen, such as you have provided, or thoughts...

Re: Cheap repair on bendy neck?

A very nice quilt there, John, beneath the neck.

Can you fill us in on that while you're at it?

Fair play to you, Bill. That was a quick turnaround from disappointment to delight.

I'm junior member of I Ceci Ceccherini, having found a single topped one here in the States a couple years...

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

    Thanks, Bill.

"Il maestro Nicola Didone, inventore del nuoto mandolino a 5 corde..."

Re: Mandolin misunderstanding by young folk

I was working in Florence some time back and was sitting in a park one morning playing the F-style mandolin I brought with me overseas.

A couple of Italian old boys came by to see what I was...

    Re: Vinaccia Mandolin for auction.

    Around 1 large in $US.

Not a steal by any means, nor a fleecing.

I've got a similar age / model Vinaccia (structurally sound but in less well cosmetic shape than this) and it's a great...

    Re: Tab vs. Dots

Conversations here too often posit this as an either / or proposition which I find both amusing and saddening in equal measures.

    In this case "versus".

I started off learning by ear and...

Re: Mandolin in bal folk music?

Yikes, Martin, how did I miss this? Too much work at the end of the semester.

Re: ID on bowl back please

This is looking good...Do you have some side views of the neck alignment?

It looks as if the neck sheared off from the neck block from picture #2. These were integral in Italian bowlbacks as...

Re: Mandolin misunderstanding by young folk

When I got my Schwab electric back in the '80s, Kevin was still making 10 stringers.

For some reason, I passed on that and went for his 5 string model.

We discussed making an alternate neck...

Re: Mandolin misunderstanding by young folk

    Thanks, Jamie.

I was just trying to help out.

And, of course, the Mandolino Bresciano with FOUR strings.

I've never heard one of these fitted with an electric pickup but probably tried out in some Northern Italian garage band.

Re: Light strings for Neapolitan bowl-back

I’ll second Bob’s recommendation for the Calace Dolces. I use them on my bowlbacks and flatbacks.

And even have a set of the Medios on my Gibson now. (David is probably rolling his eyes…)
