  2. Re: Do great looking mandolins have to sound better?

The mandolins Dawg played on Tone Poems include an S.S. Stewart Snow Queen and a Hofner 545, neither of which will go down in history as expensive or highly sought after.

    Admittedly, I'd love to...

yeah, that's an Antoniotsai or Bruce Wei instrument, I forget which. I believe Jody is the only player I know of using one of those Vietnam-built bling machines in a professional context. Of course,...

That is a pretty high serial number for an A3 ... they disappear at the beginning of the snakehead era, don't they?

Sure, you can use it for firewood or fighting off aggressive stray dogs.
  10. Re: Fender FM60E 5 string electric mando intonation...

I string FM60Es with 50/38/24/14/10. FM60Es are fairly consistent, but I suppose it's possible that the bridge placement is off and the instrument would benefit from moving the bridge a little closer...

I don't know if Neil Gladd still posts here or not, but he works in the Copyright Office and has been through all the classical mandolin recordings in the Library of Congress, so he's your guy.

    Østbu 12-string mandolin from Norway
