That is exactly what SB claims in the Revival documentary movie.

    Re: What's in your case?

I regularly play several different instruments so I carry a bag that has tuners, tools, strings, straps, etc. My cases are generally empty except for instruments. I did get a cool case candy gift...

Re: A-Model Archtop Oval Hole $500-1000

I haven't played one but am intrigued by the idea of the mahogany back/sides on the Eastman 404. I'd love to hear one to see if it makes a big difference between it and its maple kin.

    Re: Eastman MD 614

I like my my Eastman 504 pretty well. It's my only oval hole mandolin right now and is also the mandolin I don't worry about traveling with as much as my others. I think the short neck, non-elevated...

    Re: Sturgill Simpson Bluegrass Album

I downloaded it and can't decide if I love or hate it. One one hand, it's pretty good daggone bluegrass even if I'm not a fan of there being drums on it. On the other, his ability to perform...

Well, tell him I say "Hey!" Sounded great, BTW.

    Re: Why Mandolin?

I picked up acoustic guitar in college. Early nineties "unplugged" rock created a desire to play rock songs acoustically. Led Zep's frequent use of mandolin their music gave it some rock cred in my...

    Re: Ok, who dunnit?

Shew, that thing looked like something I'd be willing to run up credit card debt to have. I'm just glad the temptation is gone.

Since I've been meaning to do this for along time and it's on the recent thread list, please change mine to Scott Rucker. Thank you for all you do.

    Re: El Toro ?

391 would be fairly recent, around late 2016 - early 2017. I'm not sure how many he is at now. I have a 2017 Silverangel that is a few numbers higher than that one. I don't think he did separate...

Re: more accurate clip on tuner than Snark?

I love my Peterson (haven't tried the Unitune). It's accurate every time. Downsides: it's big and the power switch isn't recessed so it can come on on it's own in a bag or case.

    Re: El Toro ?

I own two Silverangel mandolins. I also live not far from Ken. So I have played many Silverangel and several El Toro mandolins. Every mandolin is different but they all sound like his work. I don't...

    Re: Which Budget Fingerstyle Guitar?

I agree with the "get all the new guitars" you can sentiment. Acoustic guitars are plentiful in the new and used marketplace, there is wide variation in them, and today's cheap guitars aren't bad....
  18. Re: Breedlove mandolins - no on-line catalog?

I think Scott T posted some information about Breedlove's temporary(?) suspension of their mandolin line in a NAMM thread on the discussion board either this year or last. Used US made ones (more...

Re: Are People Buying Less Mandolins Now?

I like it. It plays well and is very light. I'm a fan of woody banjos so the lack of a metal tone ring was no big deal to me. I think it's very similar to the early Enoch Tradesman banjos I tried out...

Re: Are People Buying Less Mandolins Now?

I bought one of those Ute banjos direct from the Ogsburys during isolation. So I'm doing my part to keep the economy going.

    Re: Attention Silverangel owners

Ken gives me a hard time about not using 75s every time he sees my mandolins. My SA F5 has a tall bridge with a steep break angle at the bridge so it already feels "tight" to me. I should probably...

Another nickel fan for oval holes here. I haven't experimented a lot but have always come back to J74s on f hole mandolins.
