Agreed for sure but would it create the desired result if built by a skilled luthier? Not original but an interesting idea to me.
Bracing may not create a bass and treble side but the bridge coming down on the split top may...?
That's great Mike thanks. I'm lucky to have Bruce just down the road from me, great guy.
The back of this Blueberry is a mahogany species from Bali. I'm not big on the carvings but the guitar sounds fantastic and is well made. Thing is huge though 5" wide bout. 163652
So I love the deep resonance of my mahogany mandolin on the lows and the clear bell of my maple mandolin on the highs, is it possible to get both? I have a cedar/spruce dread that kind of...
I thought the same thing when I started mandolin and asked around about wider string spacing but was encouraged to stay with it and now I can ring clear with my big fat fingers, there's a reason the...
This is good to hear for me. I ordered a km 256 for about that price, it's on back order for awhile. Wanted a non burst, and plan to open that thing up with extensive playing. Should be good for...
I hear ya. I wasn't thinking a knock off of a Kentucky but maybe an older model Kentucky/saga. Thanks to Mike I see even Gibson, flatiron and others used that headstock design so it's probably some...
Mike, you are awesome. That settles it for me, appreciate all the replies.
The Antoria logos on old guitars look more like the Gibson design. I think that's good advise with the entry level Kentuckys if one could not confirm it's origin or play it. Here's the link:...
A closer look, exact, I'd love to see another brand 152989152990
I'm just trying to get a better sound than my Morgan Monroe, and learn about mandos. Reminds me of when I started out on guitars I probably bought every cheap brand on the planet. And I found out you...
I guess I was hoping this might be some early model that had something special going on, who knows
152965152964152963It is a curious thing. Here's the logo of mando in question and a Kentucky logo, identical. Of course headstock shape is different as well as tail piece
They still do but have a plain headstock
Ah, these are the Blue Ridge guitars of mandolins. That explains a lot. I pmed the seller. He thinks its an 80s model #unknown because its not legible. As for guitars, saga did run their saga name in...
Going for about 3 bills, where's the logo?152952
Thanks Jim, I've had several budget vintage guitars with painted fret boards (Robertson) and stripped them down to the beautiful wood underneath. Good call on the pick guard. I'm sure the many hours...
I'm sure a few are familiar with this and I'll quit but please give a listen...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wojSgHwNm1k
Thanks for that, I'm sure there are a few more of us out there. I first started mandolin a few years ago when I thought the group I played with was redundant with two guitars and I already liked...
Could not figure out how to delete attachments so heres an add on 152915152916152917152918
This is how I inserted them so it must be the source, I'll have to mess with them to see if I can enlarge.
Maybe someone could clue me in on enlarging images, probably need to use a url?
Yup, that's all I need is another obsession. Wanting to focus more on mandolins and playing. Here's my first project. Haven't received it yet but I think it will be a good starter project for 60...
