Re: F5 with an OVAL hole?

Again, they're all the same scale, unless you're talking taterbugs or those made specifically for classical. A mandolin with the 13" violin scale is sort of rare from today's makers.

Re: F5 with an OVAL hole?

A5-type has (typically) neck joint at the 15th fret. F4, F2 and A through A4 all have neck joint at the 12th fret. A5's seem to always have an elevated fretboard too. Hybrid oval-holes are like...

    Re: Describe your MAS progression

search the forum for, "My Collections Complete." You can can read all about it! Here are the cliff notes:

    upon reflection. . .

At least the OP didn't ask, "Only one mandolin, forever. . . " Maybe when I'm 90 or so? For now, I'm sticking with my four!

    Re: Clown Barf picks available

hey Jim! You ever try violin rosin dust? Put that on your fingers (i.e., the finger tips that touch the pick) - no water - just dust.

    problem solved!

I like them! That said, I like the EXP74CM too! Sure, they're different!

I do like the feel and sound of the Starks; however.

    Re: Thoughts on String Gauges

I use lights on guitar and mediums one arch-top mandolins.

Your ear will get used to anything, I guess? I prefer to have dynamic range and to fully energize the instrument.

Re: Seeking info about Gibson "A" #15709

is there an original hard case and will you get the pick guard? These items (if there or missing) can affect the price. Just what I see seems a close-to $1,000 mandolin (i.e., within a few hundred,...
  15. Re: Cadet Flatiron truss rod tool? What do I need?

make sure you got the correct gauge string on that mandolin! GHS A250s are the spec gauge. EXP74 are too heavy!

Pheff does bring up a good point; however.

    Re: I Hate Playing Chords

I can whistle two notes at once, but rarely do.

I don't like fussing over chords either. I suffered over the chop chords and a few of the minors, but never invested the time. Love Jethro though!
