  1. Re: Are you ready for a new Carbon/Kevlar Sorensen mandolin?

Interested in one of these for the times I may again be playing outside in winter. Going from mid 60's indoor temps to single digits to maybe teens is not great on wood instruments. Although one band...

    RIP Bob Douglas

    Re: Ouch! Mandolintab.net is unauthorised?

Same here, using Chrome on an old desktop. As others said, it was working a couple days ago. Sigh.

Yes, I know there are other ways to convert abc, but I don't want to spend the time learning new...
  5. Re: Blue Chip CT 55 versus Dunlop Prime Tone 1.4

My own take is it doesn't take a lot of experience to decide on what pick works for you. Now, once experience comes, maybe a person will switch between picks depending on the instrument, mood and...

    Re: Strad-O-Lin T-Shirts!

Went overboard and got a t-shirt, baseball jersey and sweatshirt. All high quality and great printing. Very satisfied.

    Thank you, Sue!

    Re: NMD - Eastman 514

That's smart. Definitely sounds like it doesn't fit with it on.. Wouldn't be surprised if the case sizes have been tweaked over the years.

    Re: What's up with Ukes?

We have a very large ukulele organization here in the Twin Cities. Big enough that it's the main attraction for our bluegrass/old time music association fall weekend gathering.

    My own view is,...

    Re: NMD - Eastman 514

Yes, the 514 body is thinner, like an original Gibson F-2 (or F-4). My bandmate has a 514 and I really like it.

Surprised you can't fit it in the case with a tone gard. My bandmate has one on his...

Re: Why So Few Resonator Mandolins?

Have a Recording King. Recently got it from a band mate. Immedately put on extra light strings to try and make the action tolerable. For me, it works if we're playing in a larger hall with multiple...

    Re: Shopgoodwill.com Eastman 604

If I remember correctly, the balanced XLR jack was an option for the Schertler reso-coil pickup. You can still order them from Schertler that way.

Re: 2-point Orpheum branded Strad-O-lin on eBay

Thanks! And good to know the 1935 date. As I said earlier, that looks identical to my older model. So at least I now have a ballpark date to use. The blonde one I used to own was stamped 1941 inside....

Re: 2-point Orpheum branded Strad-O-lin on eBay

No, judging by the eBay listing photos, it's the 12th fret. Bridge is the same as mine with the scalloped top. FWIW, the action on my most recent SOL (probably same factory) is 1.5mm at the 12th...

Re: Eastman md 304 vs 314

Limited practical experience here - have heard the 304 in person and liked it a lot. Haven't played a 314, but my band mate has a 514. Another good sounding instrument.

    Don't think there will be...

    Re: Low End Strad

Agree - there are a lot of sub-differences. Celluloid tailpiece covers. Mainly on Type 2. The one in my profile photo has a rounded headstock. My latest one is pointy. And it's possible the profile...

    Re: Low End Strad

Here's another one. Looks fairly clean. Definitely can see the laminates through the f holes.

Am posting this because (1) it has the cool lightning bolt f holes and (2) at least two of the tuner...

Re: Know what this is? It keeps staring at me!

Isn't the pickguard cut down on that one? Also am wondering if there is a crack on the bass side near the tailpiece? Still, if it doesn't go for a lot probably a good deal. Was looking for one of...

Re: 2-point Orpheum branded Strad-O-lin on eBay

Another footnote, while setting up a different strap on my latest Strad-O-Lin, was looking at the tuners again. The screws at number 2 and 4 on each side (of the 5 holes) are smaller than the 1, 3, 5...

Re: 2-point Orpheum branded Strad-O-lin on eBay

Yes. My Stadium label SOL oval hole (all laminate mahogany) has only 3 screws per side. It's something that Strad-O-Lin seems to have started doing in the mid (or later) 1950's.

Re: 2-point Orpheum branded Strad-O-lin on eBay

Good job. That's about what I paid for mine last year. Maybe the one you bought will have a date stamp. Mine doesn't. Looks like even the same model of case. And that one appears to have the longer...
