Some home owner riders do not cover professional use, and they have a broad definition of professional. If you play at a benefit for a homeless shelter that charges admission and you don't pay, it...

Maybe the presenter came from the lute world. In the Italian version of lute tablature, the strings are represented as the OP pointed out. French tab in the way we're accustomed to.

Yes, but I like the Gravity Picks about the same and they're only 4.99, big difference in price for what I perceive as little if any difference in playing.

I've got a couple of Blue Chip picks, I like them but not anxious to lose one so don't play them too much. I found that I like Gravity Picks about as much and they're a lot less money.

Yes, a local music store had one on its wall for years. I got to play it briefly around 1970. Not much time to get any idea of its sound, but it played well.

I'm a guitar player who has yet to learn more than two or three chords on the mandolin I've had for almost three years, but to my ears you can do away with a banjo, but bluegrass is not bluegrass...

I generally use D'Angelico 500BPL because I like the wound octave 'A.' Sometimes on the F-512 I use D'Addario EJ-38 or EJ-39.

I got my first mandolin last Friday, after almost 50 years of playing guitar (mostly rhythm on steel string and classical on nylon). By Saturday I was able to participate in our monthly folk jam and...
I don't know if it would be my favorite, but I'm surprised none of our Canadian listers have mentioned it. While I was at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Don Messer's Jubilee introduced me to a lot...
As far as I know, my father never listened to music, although he was prone to whistling some of the pop tunes from the 30s-40s and liked to watch the musical movies from that era. My mother was a Big...
No mandolins in this one, although as we all know Beethoven did write for it:
The Boston Symphony was performing Beethoven's Ninth. In the piece, there's a long passage about 20 minutes during...
My first mandolin (Loar LH-500-VS) arrived today.Soon after tuning it up and playing a few chords, a song came to my head, one that I've known for years but rarely (if ever) played. It almost played...
Yeah, I've been suffering from GAS for years, so it may be hard to resist if I get into the mandolin in a big way.

Hello,
I joined this group a few days ago at the suggestion of somebody on Flatpick-L. After at least 20 years telling myself I should by a mandolin, I have. I'm getting a Loar LH-500-VS that should...
Please change me from Brad4d8 to Brad Little.
Thanks
Somebody mentioned the added weight of enclosed tuners. I can attest to that. I changed the open back six in line Klusons on my old Guild 12 with mini-Schallers, probably about the same size as...
Fortunately, nothing at the moment. Unfortunately, it is often music from an ad that I've heard on the radio, one of those things that a SciFi author once dubbed a Pepsi. Oh, well, at least I know...
