  1. Re: Gibson Master Model vs. Ellis F5 with all of his highest opti

I was asking myself the exact same question a while back. I did play an Ellis tradition. What a beautiful mandolin to me. Flawless, beautiful wood. Excellent tone. It just didn't knock me off my...

Re: Naked Bridge Post Is Shredding My Palm

Putting duct tape on this is kinda like using it to tape up your broken glasses. I guess if looks and sticky don't bother you... Try a fingernail File. It won't work as good as a "real" file but...

Re: Parting with a beloved mandolin

    Like an old Girlfriend.

This discussion makes me want to sell something. I just sold a guitar I had for 33 years. It took me a long time to let it go but I'm glad I did. The new owner is...

Get another quote. Find someone who will do a partial refret. Not everyone will. A full one is not always necessary. Seems like someone close could do it. I would want someone experienced with...

    Re: Replacement Tuner Buttons

So, surfing around I ran across an old article by a respected source. How bout this:
    http://www.lutherie.net/gotoh.compared.html

by this thread BOTH his examples are Sagas. Hmmm.
  8. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

I'll throw my suggestions in here. Use the metronome when playing/practicing alone. It develops LISTENING skills, it never listens so YOU have to adjust to it.

Know how your break or tune goes...

    Re: Duffeyisms

I've read those old FRETS magazines so many times. It is as familiar as The Bible to me. There is still good information in them. Some instrument knowledge I feel may have advanced since then.

    Waverly reversal?

These are worm over, and seem to turn the correct way. Are these reversable? If so, how do you do it?
  14. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

After reading Dean Guitars reply to Gibson. I hope that mandolin builders join in the consortium or form their own to undo or fight these claims.

My KM-1000 serial number is 212 09, purchased in '84 I don't think mine had the outlined truss rod cover, but I put a pearl one on it for years. But that is a very interesting point.

  20. Re: Bridge angle to fingerboard or top ? Arching

Thank you for the excellent replies. I've tried fitting a bridge before and I WON"T be trying it on this one. If I owned it I wold have someone fix this into an upright position at least. It leans...
  21. Re: Bridge angle to fingerboard or top ? Arching

Usually when I reset my bridge on the Gibson, I kinda look at the rim and set it perpendicular to that as you say. With this arching, that would seem to make the bridge "cut in" to the top on the...
  22. Bridge angle to fingerboard or top ? Arching

I've got a mandolin on loan for a while. It's a fairly well known maker. This one has arching that peaks behind the bridge. (My normal modern Gibson bridge sits rather on top of the arch, so I'm...
