    Re: Thank You, Collings

Thanks for sharing, man. I agree they have a unique tone. Iím using J75s and donít find mine lacks bottom-end. It also handled higher action and quite straight neck very well, which stiffened things...

    Re: "Powerful/Loud!"

    Nice thread....

I definitely like a fundamentally loud mandolin, but I rarely play it to get all the volume it has. As long as it cuts through a jam and has the sweetness when played a bit softer....

    Re: Fun observation

    That is fun!

I wish I had my first playable mandolin, which was an Alvarez A-100. It wasn't fancy, and didn't sound so great, but it played really easily and was a huge step up from the Stella I...

    Re: Mandolin Close Ups

    Hey, Folks:

Yes, I noticed the tailpiece lid was up. That does contribute to the buzzing, but also happens when it's secured.

I just posted another thread about Collings helping me out and...

    Mandolin Lesson with Aaron Weinstein

    Hi, Everyone:

I just want to share that I had a mandolin lesson (via video conference) with Aaron Weinstein a few weeks ago, and it was a wonderful experience. Of course, Aaron comes with a...

    Thank You, Collings

Big shout out to Collings for working very closely with me the past week to figure how to address a buzzing issue on my MT2. The folks there were polite and responsive, and I'm happy to say they...

Re: Visit to Carter Vintage Guitars

Great study! Im a torrefied MT lover myself. There’s just something wonderfully crispy about the tone, eh?

Also... I had a 2016 MT prior to my current, and it was a wonderful instrument. Although...

    Re: Mandolin Close Ups

    Hi, Everyone:

Thanks for your encouragement and wisdom. I was turned some relief into the neck last night, further than I had been turning it to date, and it helped a bunch. It didn't solve it...

    Mandolin Close Ups

Buzzing everywhere.... Truss rod is just about full on straight, with slight relief. Iím thinking itís saddle string slots or nut slots, although a local luthier said itís the hump where the neck and...

    Re: A-String Buzz

    Hey, Everyone:

Thanks so much for all of your attention to my mandolin buzzing woes. :-)

I finally took it to a local luthier today to see what he thought and he said the following:

    1. Hump...

    Re: A-String Buzz

    Hi, everyone:

I realized today it’s the first fret wire! I tried to look through from one side to the other between my strings and fretboard and couldn’t see past the first fret wire, then it all...

    Re: A-String Buzz

    Hi, Everyone:

Seems it’s including the E strings today, now when fretting just about anywhere, more predominantly in the A strings. The G and D strings sound great,

    I ran across this tonight...

    Re: A-String Buzz

    True enough!

With respect to Stiver and Bluett, I’ve found that Warner, Bob Kane (Hershey), and Jeff Hoestetter (Red Lion) are gems as well. Thanks to your suggestion, I contacted Jeff to see...

    Re: A-String Buzz

Yeah, I’m getting the humidifiers going too. Thankfully, my basement is at about 50% seven or eight months a year, so I can work with that, but I rank the humidifier in a smallish room otherwise.

    Re: A-String Buzz

Thanks so much for the information. I mean, I tightened it until it would easily turn any more then stopped. The strings feel stiffer for sure, and the buzz is just about gone, although I hear it...

    Re: A-String Buzz

    Hey, Everyone...

Thanks again for the tips. It got worse, so I ended up tightening the truss rid the whole way a d raised the action a little bit, which just about solved it. I’d say 99%.

    Re: Heiden vs Northfield GOM

Great points. I agree that I want them all. :-)

For me, it’s also worth noting Collings has some mystique to it, which I think is due to when the company hit the market and who plays them....

    Re: Heiden vs Northfield GOM

Interesting.... I was able to play two Pavas recently, also next to two Northfields, and I liked those Northfields more. I don't have anything bad to say about Pavas. The strings on them seemed a bit...

    Straps

    Hi, Everyone:

So... I'm looking for a new mandolin strap. I currently have a well-used, somewhat tattered leather Weber strap. It's been functional, but is not very comfortable. I'd like a wider,...

    Re: Heiden vs Northfield GOM

Thanks for sharing, Tony. I’ve found time spent in a high-end mandolin room can be revealing. There’s usually seems to be at least one winner in the room, and there seem to be surprising let downs as...
