I think Potosimando makes some VERY good points. Not all mandolins by the same maker are equal. They are all different. #IF you can get out and try a lot of mandolins, you SHOULD.

On the flip side...

IMO, Don Paine, Pomeroy mandolins will fit the bill nicely. Don makes amazing mandolins, works very well with the buyer to make sure you get exactly what you need and stay within your price range....

Someone once posted that if you take a hot needle and poke a Tortoise pick it will smell like hair ... not like plastic. Of course you don't want to poke to hard ... just a little touch will tell.

I agree with you completely. Great musician, good band (YO MURF!), nice CD. If you like a good blend of bluegrass and oldtime, you will like Slipstream.
