Re: A friend's new 'used' Sam Bush mandolin.

In absolute fairness to DH, anything he told me when chatting was probably misinterpreted by me due to my somewhat 'giddy' state. The new anniversary model sounds fab though.
  3. Re: Kaufman Kamp 2015 Roll Call--Who is going?

First time this year. I fully expect my brain to be fried by Tuesday lunchtime. What an Alumni.
  4. Re: Swannanoa Gathering - Mando, Banjo, Fiddle Week

Matt Flinners class last year was a blast and Mike Marshall got you doing things you never thought you'd enjoy.

Re: Sam Bush Master Model vs Sam Bush F5

Thanks lenf12. You are correct, the '34 (I thought it was a copy of a 1935 in a catalogue) was produced in a very limited run. I don't believe I've ever seen one come up for sale.

Thanks to everybody for their tuppence worth (2 cents). The Jesse Brock clip has just whetted my appetite further!

Sam Bush Master Model vs Sam Bush F5

I've been looking at these for long enough now I should really be able to answer this myself.

I read the blurb for the SB 1934 inspired F5 (with the Fern inlay) and it quotes a nut of 1 3/16" I've...

Re: Bush, McCoury and Hoffman in mandolin jam

Good to see another fan of GSBG in the UK.
  10. Re: "A Prairie Jewel" by John Reischman tab anybody????

I have a tab given out at Swannanoa, 64 measures. If I recall, Mike Marshall handed it out after John Reischman had played it the night before in staff concert.
Send me a PM if you would like a...

    Re: Emory Lester- Pale Rider

And, the man is an entertaining and informative teacher. I had the pleasure of sitting in on his lessons at Swannanoa this year.

Re: 2009 Paul Newson Varnish F-5

My favourite band of the past three years. Love their covers of classics and P Hoffmans playing.

    Re: “From the Blue Ridge”

There's a number of Jeff Midkiff tracks on my iPod but I had no idea he'd produced a concerto. Love his playing.

    Re: Northfield mandolins

I, too, was at Swannanoa at the same time and I took Emory Lester's class each day. I thought I'd heard great tone and volume from mandolins before but that Northfield in Emory's hands was loud and...

    Re: Swannanoa fiddle mando,banjo week

    Re: Swannanoa fiddle mando,banjo week

I wrap up work Friday (our first flight is Saturday lunchtime) and I'm unlikely to get much chance to shop between landing late Sat night and getting the shuttle Sunday morning. Usqebach suggested a...

    Re: Grand Targhee 2014...

I'd be really interested in your view post festival and camp. I changed my mind at the last minute of booking and went for Swannanoa (three flights and a 16 hour journey time helped me decide). Have...

  21. Re: Wintergrass. How early do I have to buy tickets?

If you have housing organised you can leave it as late as you like, within reason. I believe they had some tickets available on the door at this years event.
  22. Re: Rory Gallagher; 2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995

    I stand corrected.
  23. Re: Rory Gallagher; 2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995

As Ed Goist says, one of the greatest musicians I have ever seen.....and a genuinely nice guy to boot. He would be sitting in the pub opposite the venue in Brighton, UK, before the gig, chatting and...

Re: Take your best mandolin to the festivas?

Take what you're most familiar/comfortable with. However, if the likes of John Reischman will take his Loar to workshops and let the students 'have a go', I'd have no problem taking my favourite...
