    Re: If you jam . . . .

Depends on the jam and it’s particular etiquette. I’ve been to some BG jams where stands are Heavily frowned upon, but I still have 1 jam where one fellow always brings a stand and it’s fine. I...

    Re: Refinishing a Flatiron F5?

That shows with enough skill and money, wonderful things can happen.

With all due respect, by the OP’s questions, I thought he might not have Mike Black’s skill. That said, wonderful work can be...

    Re: Developing Finger Independence

Good left hand position helps keeping the pinky in line. I use scales and scales in thirds, ffcp, slowly, paying attention to my pinky mechanics. I've got a long way to go, I aspire to the Alan...

    Re: Double Standard

To me that’s part of the issue. The site is information dense, and searching the forums using the site tool is often not useful. Even the site moderators suggest using Google and helpfully provide...
  9. Re: Dumb and petty complaint (Doyle Lawson F-5 content)

Close your eyes or play it in the dark. Makes you wonder how blind folks chose instruments.

Re: Ready built electric mandolin necks?

Advertise them for what you would like to get. If they sell out in an hour, price was too low. If nobody buys one, either the price was too high, or the market is too thin.

    With the absence of...

    Re: "Soft" Pick?

Dava makes some soft tipped picks, although I doubt they were designed to mimic fingers on strings.

    Re: buying tonewood

If you’re going into production I’d suggest buying a suitable bandsaw. If you’re building as a hobby, I’d buy premachined pieces.

    Re: Developing Finger Independence

I would also suggest being patient. Today's big effort is tomorrow's (and maybe the next day's) soreness. If 5 minutes is good, 20 minutes may not be better.

That was fun. Interesting watching her Django fingers, just flapping the breeze for the most part. Didn't slow her (or Django) any.

  25. Re: Anybody going/been to Alan Bibey Mandolin Camp?

As much as I love and respect Alan, I can’t believe they are having the camp.
