    Re: Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Frank Solivan had it done on his left hand earlier this year. Saw him play late April and again not too long ago. Looks like he recovered quite nicely. He may see this and respond himself, but I did...

Re: Schertler Dyn-M vs L.R. Baggs Radius

I've been using the Schertler for 15 years. Great acoustic sound. I've used it plugged into my amp and directly into the board at different times. The only time I have feedback issues is if I lean...

Re: Shertler Dyn-M can go right into mixer?

I run mine directly into the mixer all the time. You can pretty much just treat it as another mic.

    Re: Frank Solivan & DK

I first met Frank probably 4-5 years ago now. He gave me his new CD and let me noodle on his Lewis mandolin. Super nice guy and a killer band.
  7. Re: Sam Bush: What Pickup Does He Use? Magnificent!

Sam usually uses a mic in combination with his barcus berry. I would bet that the mix that we get in the audience is mostly mic. A couple things about the Schertler...I have used one for close to ten...

    Re: Sam bush signature strings

They may have changed them. Sam said at Merlefest that he doesn't use them anymore.

    Re: Minnesota Mando Shops?

The Podium has some nice old Gibsons. Homestead has Weber. Willies is listed as a Collings dealer but I haven't been there to see what they have in stock. There are a couple places in Chicago listed...

    Re: Peter Ostroushko' s mando-chronicles

Got it for Christmas. I'm really enjoying it. He plays four different mandolins, a mandocello, and a mandola along with some fiddle. He gets great tone out of anything, but I really do love the sound...

Glad to see I'm not the only home-brewer here! I think my next recipe might be a porter or stout for the winter.

    Re: Naming Your Mandolin

I hadn't thought seriously about naming my F9, but my mother referred to it as "Mandy" in a recent conversation. Saw Tim O'Brien Sunday night and he said Hot Rize had names for all the instruments....

Re: Right Hand, any hope ? suggestions

Was it Tim O'Brien who made reference to "shaking out a dish-rag"? He's got an insanely relaxed wrist. I've also noticed that if I'm white-knuckle gripping the pick, that translates to stiff wrist...

    Re: Band attire??

Last time I played out I wore a shirt advertising one of my favorite local breweries. Turns out all the wait staff wear that shirt too. Luckily nobody tried to order a drink from me.

Re: Colligs MT and Gibson A-9

I'm assuming that the A-9 is going to have a flat fretboard while the Collings will be radiused which could infuence your decision.

    Re: New Year Mandolin Goals

As soon as the kid is done with college this spring and we're not paying tuition anymore, sign up for lessons from Peter Ostroushko (how can I pass up that opportunity?).

Jethro to Chet Atkins - "Well, what song should we do?" Chet - "How about the one we practiced."

    Yet another Schertler thread.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried switching a Schertler between two instruments during a show. Usually I really mash it on there with the putty so it doesn't get pulled off, but in the interest of...
