  1. Re: 1923 Vinaccia Mandolin eBay Auction: Scam ?

    Genuine San Jose Artist Mandolin

This eBay auctioned mandolin sure has a rather unique shape which some might dislike, yet some others might find refreshingly original and intriguing. ...
  4. Re: 1923 Vinaccia Mandolin eBay Auction: Scam ?

EBay has now taken down all of that scoundrel's listings. Too bad, that mandolin looked very interesting.;)
  5. 1923 Vinaccia Mandolin eBay Auction: Scam ?

To me this sure looks like a scam attempt via a hacked account:

  6. Re: Sorry, Dr. Leone, your Mandolino is not my Cup of Vino

Thank you David, you are right, they give their company address as in Metropolitan Catania (on Via Palermo, which misled me), and not in the city of Palermo as I wrote by mistake in my OP.
  7. Re: Sorry, Dr. Leone, your Mandolino is not my Cup of Vino

Yeah, what a shame about that Pasquale Vinaccia mandolin in your link, it seems to be in a rather poor condition. We do not get to see many of those in circulation today. However, if we were to...
  8. Sorry, Dr. Leone, your Mandolino is not my Cup of Vino

Re: 1909 A4 Gibson Factory Revamped

I tend to agree with that. I do not believe there is a consensus on what kind of finishing materials/methods Gibson used on their vintage mandolins. However. I doubt very much that a large scale...

    Re: Is This A Larson?

I have a Bruno BB mandolin very similar in execution to the subject instrument, just a bit fancier pickguard as well as the tuning machines. If that eBay mandolin was made by the Larsons, then so was...

Re: 1909 A4 Gibson Factory Revamped

I do not see how an old Gibson mandolin could maintain such a near-perfect glossy finish after some 100 or so years. Even when new, I believe their finish was more satiny than glossy.
    From the...

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

She might for sure, because the way her listing stands now, I do not see her getting any action.
Pricewise I'd perhaps go out on a limb for the mandola alone, however, that tambura ballast is the...

This lebel-less mandolin seems to be getting a bit of attention on eBay UK, perhaps because it has some superficial characteristics of earlier (19th c.) Calaces....

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

Quite so. Based on my modest mandolin selling experience, I'd have a hard time selling that mandola for $700 fully restored, but if I did, that would mean that I'd have to pay no more than about $300...

That Ulcigrai mandolin keeps calling me, but the darn tambura would be a deal breaker from the standpoint of subsequent resale. While the bowl back mandolin market is near dead in Canada, I'd say the...

    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

Indeed, the mandolin (or mandola ?) looks well made, uniquely yet well styled in a sort of a modern way. I'd like to think that a liutaio whose bread and butter product are violins, would have to be...

That is an approximate clone of the De Meglio mandolin. Although its tuning machines look to be nicer than in the genuine brand, those sort of clones generally do not fetch as much money as bona...
