    Re: Mandolin ToneRite on guitar?

Before you liberate your ToneRite, try it between the bridge and tailpiece. That's the way I did it with my octave and it worked great.

    Re: Anti theft GPS info?

Just how any mandolins get stolen such that we need to spend hundreds of dollars to prevent it? Well, there's only one listed in the classifieds and this is a gathering place for mandolin pickers. ...

    Re: Best Armrest

A small edge touching the instrument is all that's necessary. Like Philphool indicated, anything more is going to act upon the vibrating surface and will likely affect the quality of sound.

    Re: Chris Thile's new pick

You know what? If I played like Chris Thile (or if there was any hope of ever playing like Chris Thile), I might be concerned. The more I think about it, though, the more I want to make sure the...

Billy Strings is also a pretty good mandolin picker.

    Re: Bryan Sutton on mandolin?!?

Josh Williams is one of the most under-rated musicians in Nashville.

Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

That's important. We want to make sure we have our ad libs and spontaneous remarks down pat. :)

Seriously, while certainly not possible for jams and the like, practice makes a big difference in...

Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

The Isaacs, a successful Southern gospel family group, has a unique sound because they play an A at 432 instead of 440 on much of their material. It's especially noticeable in their harmony. I knew...
  9. Re: Pickup options for an F hole octive mandolin

The RedEye is probably best "mounted" on the floor to make better use of the boost button. It is completely separate from the instrument. I've used mine with a Schertler, K&K and L.R. Baggs pickup....
  10. Re: Pickup options for an F hole octive mandolin

Google it. There are several dealers out there.

    Re: Harp...anyone?

That's a wonderful piece of music. The two instruments blend well.

I also noticed they apparently missed Sesame Street when they taught the difference in left and right. That's one of those...

Re: Is there a mandolin equivelent out there?

    Good lord, I hope not.
  14. Re: Pickup options for an F hole octive mandolin

Eddie Blevins made an f-style octave for me and I specified the K&K pickup. I've had nothing but good luck with them. One of my mandolins also has a Schertler pickup and it has also worked quite...
  15. Re: Ebay Ratliff Mandolin Ads - Why is there little interest?

I think the problem of too little interest comes from the fact that it's on eBay. Seller ratings notwithstanding, I'd be a little leery about buying a mandolin from a stranger without having hands...
  16. Re: Ebay Ratliff Mandolin Ads - Why is there little interest?

Over the years, I've certainly bought my share! :)

    Re: UPS rant

FYI: On Tuesday, 12/17, I order a wireless microphone system from B&H Photo. It was shipped the same day from New Jersey. It arrived here in Columbus, GA, today, less than 48 hours after it was...

Re: Mapes string on my mandola

Mapes makes a pretty good string. If I'm not mistaken, they do most of their business making piano strings and supplying the wire for some other string manufacturers.

    Re: UPS rant

Online shipping dates can be deceptive. Often, shippers will create the paperwork online but the product may not leave their property for a while. It often happens when the paperwork is created on...
  23. Re: Sirius Radio Replaced Bluegrass station 62 with 24/7 Dolly Pa

Their promos for Dolly that aired on other channels specified that it would only run through the 27th so it wasn't a tough call.
  24. Re: "New techniques" for instrument restoration (NMC)

That's fine except that I have a life and, as much as I enjoy my mandolins, I have other interests. My life does not revolve around those 8 strings.
  25. Re: Sirius Radio Replaced Bluegrass station 62 with 24/7 Dolly Pa

But most of us knew it was coming back.
