  1. Re: A Strad-O-Lin almost identical to mine

I missed bidding on the Stradolin on https://shopgoodwill.com/item/152105471 due to a power outage and no cell service during Hurricane Ian. Never did get in the bathtub with a mattress over us but...
  2. Re: A Strad-O-Lin almost identical to mine

If it's as good as Sue's SOL, and I believe it is very similar, it should be one of the good ones, even if it is a laminated back. I had a solid top / laminated back & sides Orphrum branded SOL that...
  3. Re: A Strad-O-Lin almost identical to mine

Got it! Paid one dollar and fifty one cents more than Sue did for her Clarence White Model.

Sue, I overpaid, :crying: and I'd do it again, but I didn't get the super cool stairstep fretboard...

Jeff, I was recently told that Guitar Center severely shortened that 45 day return policy (ONLY ON USED ITEMS). So, ask before you purchase.

Re: Any ideas on what this is?

I agree! A good used (solid woods) Kentucky KM-150 mandolin off of ebay will save you some cash.
Although, there is a used Kentuky KM-620 Mandolin w/ Case (Excellent Condition) on ebay with 4days &...
  6. Re: A Strad-O-Lin almost identical to mine

The SOL Jake Wildwood has listed is Sue Rieter's. Jake did the set up on Sue's SOL and took (really great) pictures. Jake is in agreement with you that this model "probably" has a laminated back....

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and research, but I'm going to pass on this one.

Unfortunately, the seller has not answered the email I sent him, two days ago. So, I'm going to look for...

Re: Any ideas on what this is?

The (Japanese) Kent pickup and Tone/Volume controls are from a 1960's Monkey-on-a-stick add on pickup.
I have been told that Kent pickup is not as good as an American made DeArmond.
    No idea on...

Sue, I'm surprised you haven't written a song about your Stradolin! Have you named Her, yet? lol
She is solid woods, isn't She???

Asymmetrical fretboards are rare & were usually solid woods. Is...

Re: Strad-O-Lin, United and Homenick Bros

I found Joseph Saltzman's obituary in the MUSIC TRADES dated MAY 1996 that sheds some light on Sorkin and their Japan connection... Joseph Saltzman, a veteran of the music industry and founder of...

Peter Sorkin of Peter Sorkin Music Company was a New York-based retailer/wholesaler who bought Stradolin and owned Multivox and Premier (a guitar and amplifier brand). I don't know his situation...

Though it may not have always been this way, Sorkin probably would have done just about ANYTHING to make a sale, unlike Gibson or Martin where keeping a certain standard of quality was important. I...

    Re: Stradolin bargain(?) alert

Strings would never flatten a top, or would it? Oh look, a Stradolin with a flattened top and an enormous "CUSTOM" Bridge that looks more like a dam or a violin bridge. ;)

    Steam Bent Top? More...
  16. Re: 1920 Gibson A $500 today only needs repair

Jeff, I never tell anyone what to do... I suggest. pirateship.com, stamps.com, shippo and several other competing companies have been around for quite some time. It is a way to save on shipping. I...
  17. Re: 1920 Gibson A $500 today only needs repair

    Ouch! Still worth it.

FYI I shipped a mandolin from Boston to Sarasota, Fl. through pirateship.com that cost me $35 and emailed the sender the label (thankfully, he had a working printer). There...

    Re: Stradolin bargain(?) alert

I believe the (steam bent) back, seems to be trying to straighten out, to it's original flat shape. As it has become unglued (except close to the neck and at the tail block) and is sticking out a...

    Re: Stradolin bargain(?) alert

Took 3 months for my Boston relatives to find a box big enough but I finally got this Friday.

The only reason I took a chance on this is Mike Edgerton said, "last of the real Strad-O-Lins". You...

You have to order your instrument with the "Squeaky option". Otherwise, it takes years to master the "Squeaky Technique".

Now pardon me, I have to get back to being Hideous and Trashy.

    Re: Strad-o-lin neo-log-ism

Went for $118.00 (plus $2.01 shipping & handling), the tuners, bridge, pick guard and tailpiece are worth more than that.

Did anyone (here on Mandolin Cafe) win the auction?

    Re: Strad-o-lin neo-log-ism

A common problem with Strad-O-Lin's. I have had two (like that) fixed. Was charged less than $50 for each repair. It's an easy fix. If your repairman charges $100, he is overcharging or he is paying...
