    Re: Song Writers???

For me lyrics, usually just a catchy line, start the process. After that the melody I start from singing the line keeps things going. I almost always sing as I write so they go together.

Don't ask about basses and guitars.

Re: Omnidirectional Mic through bass amp

Try it in rehearsal and see but I suspect the microphone impedence will be a poor match for the amp.

Re: A question about guitar bridge pins

I agree with Dale. Bridge pin material has at most a negligible impact on sound. Proper fit of the pins and string installation is much more likely to remedy your problem.

    Re: Stewmac Upgrade kits

I disagree. It is just as easy to remove the parts from the Squire and sell them as it is with a mandolin. Maybe more so as there is a bigger market. Either way you are unlikely to break even if you...

Re: Gibson mandolin hope to find info

The people here offering multiples of $5 are joking around because $5 is an incredible deal. If your friend is interested in selling he should get a real appraisal.

Re: Kluson split-shaft tuners for mandolin

You should be able to buy individual tuners to complete a set. Be aware they probably are heavier than the existing tuners which could cause neck dive.

Re: Best mandolin wall stand, e.g. hook etc?

I have two electric guitars and an electric bass on hangers I got from Sweetwater. They are mounted into studs. With a heavier instrument I would definitely recommend mounting on a studs with a...

    Re: Metallic String Buzz

If putting felt under the truss rod not makes the buzzing worse it sounds like the truss rod itself may be buzzing in the slot. Depending on how it is installed that could be an easy fix or a big...

    Re: Intentionally Imperfect Tuning

I tune in unison but the combination of my inexpensive mandolin intonation issues inherent in a fretted instrument, pick attack and less than perfect left hand technique tend to add some beats.

Re: How to repair this broken head stock ?

I agree with Sunburst's approach. I would not worry about the collector's value as it is already pretty much gone. That said, a well repaired neck will have more value than a replaced one.

It is a nice store. I live about a twenty minute walk away. Its a good thing I am broke or I would be after a visit there.

    Re: Smokey Smelling Mandolin Case

If it is on the outside of the case a good cleaning should help. A friend had good luck on the inside by putting a cut up apple in a mesh bag for about a week.

    Re: Incoming: 1965 Shiro

I don't have any information either but am interested as I am a fan of APII's electrics and have heard nice things about the classical guitars.

    Re: Microphone mute switch

If you are not using phantom power, a simple A/B switch with one side not connected would work.

    Re: Darkening Walnut

Just be aware that walnut will darken with time and exposure to light. I don't know if it will still darken if it has been dyed though.

Re: SNARK ST-2 Super Tight Clip On Tuner

I like Foldepath's view that the display is part of the accuracy. I guess that is part of the ease of use I mentioned. As for the cost thing $60 Vs $25 can get be big if the more than one tuner per...

Re: SNARK ST-2 Super Tight Clip On Tuner

To swing this back to the accuracy of various tuners; I doubt very many of us can hear a difference of 0.1 cents which was stated as the poorer accuracy of the Snark. I don't know where that number...

Re: Amateur repair of loose brace?

I think the first step would be to get a good look at it. Mirrors, lights in the end pin hole etc. can all help. Is the brace just loose or is it cracked? How are the other braces? The time you...
