    Re: William Halsey mandolin owners?

I believe there is another thread about Bill's mandolins. I have no idea perhaps a moderator will mention the link. If I remember correctly there were some great photos as Mr. Halsey himself is/was a...
  3. Re: Loar-era Gibson F4 -- Structurally Sound?

Yes I don't know what I was looking at but the top looks great! My BAD! Killer looking F-4 and with a Virzi! Thats a bonus right there! Please don't rip it out.

Re: What brand mandolin is this?

Oliver is one heck of a builder! Not to mention a super great guy! I'm happy with my LS Custom Rosine F-5 I had him build-it was well worth the wait "and the wait wasn't bad, maybe a year and a half...
  5. Re: Vintage photo of a Lyon & Healy mando cello

Those are some rare finds-the L&H MandoCello that is! I've seen one recently for sale somewhere-heck I say recent but for all I know it could've been years ago!
  6. Re: Vintage Two Point Carved Top Mandolin - Looking for informati

On a side note Mike, what makes you think those Kluson tuners are 70's? I had a 1949 all original F-12 and it had the same gold plated plastic button Kluson's? Just curious buddy?

    Re: Old Gibson Mandolin

Yes I'd say it was re-necked in the 50's-60's? Am I blind as I see truss rod screws but no Cover? Is there a cover?
  8. Re: Spotted in Phoenix- a Parrot and early Orville

I really like that Parrot Loar-I would have to get rid of the Parrot! At least the front ones are gone. This one is the 3rd Known Loar I think, well maybe the 2nd as only a guard has surfaced with an...
  9. Re: Vintage Two Point Carved Top Mandolin - Looking for informati

Yeah buddy, if you can post a video demo of it so we can all get an idea of its tonal voice! I still really like this one for its serious odd ball factor! One has to love the old mandolin oddities!
  10. Re: Vintage Two Point Carved Top Mandolin - Looking for informati

If it was mine I'd have to see her in hand to see what I wanted to do so the job looked and fit with that really fine mandolin! It looks scary where the bottom screw would go in the above photo.
  11. Re: Spotted in Phoenix- a Parrot and early Orville

Yes I believe the Virzi is backwards on that one. I think the old scenes from the front are removed, I'd remove the Parrot on the back if it was mine. I do like the whole look and vibe of that Loar,...
  12. Re: Vintage Two Point Carved Top Mandolin - Looking for informati

WoW I'm in lust-I love those old OddBall Mandolins! I should be getting my Sept.1934 Joe Wilson back very soon! The tuners look to be wartime or directly postwar gold plated Kluson A style tuners!

  13. Re: Items stolen from David Grisman's gig last night

Thank the good Lord that none of Dawgs very special instruments weren't taken! I imagine most thieves would stay away from those? "My Uncles pre-war Flathead banjer was stolen along with a late 60's...
  14. Re: Lyon & Healy 1918 Style A in ... sunburst?!

Never seen one of those in a burst? Looks rather nice but that should be what pre-1920 right and the burst looks a bit older to me-meaning late than 20's?

  16. Re: 30's Gibson F-7 RW "Loar Buster" and 1936 F-5 Fern video link

It was my bad as I posted the 38 Flowerpot for sale, and then mentioned it when I posted the video a few days ago. MY FAULT! And I won't do that agin as I don't want banned. I wasn't thinking I guess!
  17. Re: 30's Gibson F-7 RW "Loar Buster" and 1936 F-5 Fern video link

Oh I'm sorry, I ust wanted to showcase the voice of each old F-5!

  19. Re: Loar-era Gibson F4 -- Structurally Sound?

To me the top looks like its caving in! So it pry needs taken off-or the back and bracing added-tone bars or X bracing?

Re: How many Mandolins to own

I've had 100's "more than likely anyways" but I'd trade them up for something better and keep going and I eventually was able to get ones I love. Its not quantity but quality for me anyways.
  22. Re: Interesting F4 - Virzi but no trussrod

It was sent back to the factory and the Virzi was put in, retro-fitted. It also looks to be refinished later on, the finish is not 20's "I don't think anyway at a glance" Like a load of Loar 5's the...

Re: Gibson 1930's A50 info please

All the A's with F-holes that I've had from the 30's have had tone bars! The best ones by far are the ones with the elevated board like the 5's IMHO. I've never had an A-75, but I imagine they sound...

Re: Gibson 1930's A50 info please
