  1. Re: Looking for opinions of Big Muddy mandolins

Setup? I haven't felt the need. I did lower the bridge on my octave to bring the action down a hair, but other than that, they have been good enough for me as is.

Re: If You Don't Perform In Public....

In addition to playing mandolin, I collect antique Venitian glass beads. I never wear them and rarely do I show them to anyone. They serve absolutely no practical purpose. But, they bring me...
  3. Re: A likely contentious opinion on electric mandolins

Different strokes for different folks. For me, electric gives me an opportunity to explore sounds more applicable to certain genres than strait up acoustic.
  4. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

That just makes me cringe. Our high school band has to do a tremendous amount of fundraising to keep the program alive. Imagine the goodwill Gibson could have created by donating those instruments...

Re: practice advice: speed vs repetoire

I see speed as a result of proficiency; it's something that isn't so much learned as it is acquired. I'd continue to learn new material, focusing on playing cleanly and practicing good technique. ...

    Re: BIG MUDDY question

I bought a Mid Missouri Mandolin back in the late '90s. Still have it and love it. I also have a Mid Mo Octave mandolin. I would not hesitate to recommend Mike Dulak's instruments. ...

    Re: Mandocaster?

I have one of the newer 4 stings. Never played an original, so I can't compare. It doesn't get a lot of use, but I do enjoy it. For me it helps fill a niche when playing rock/folk rock.

Re: what are the regular folks playing.

My main instrument is a Collings MT. No deep pockets here; I bought it used after much saving up and careful shopping.
