Re: Strings for a K-1 Mandocello

I was able to get loop end 0.70's from Curt Mangan and just used the Octave set for the rest. Gold Tone Makes a lighter Mandocello set but they are ball end.
I have tried going as low as 68 on some...
  7. Re: Please talk about your experience with the Mandola.

Riffing on Sally Anne on this 2003 Weber Yellowstone Mandola, plays like butter and has full rich tone.
  8. Re: Please talk about your experience with the Mandola.

So much for self control I just received the 2003 Weber Yellowstone mandola from Elderly - first off let me say the difference between a Weber Gallatin and a Weber Yellowstone is not too different...

    Re: "Dark" Fiddle Tunes?

Norman and Nancy Blake with James Bryan and Peter Ostroushko have their share - as do Monroe and Grisman
I'm thinking "Jackie Tar"or "Gilderoy" from Norman's "Full Moon on the Farm" or James...

Re: Sierra Hull plays a Duff octave mandolin

if you watch her hand she would not play the tune like that on mandocello, unless she changed the key sounds like Am to me

    Re: Pango Mandocello

Re: Elixir Mediums vs. D'Addario Mediums?

I did go Elixir for a while on mandolin, they are very bright when new, are highly responsive and hold up a while, my only dislike on Elixir is when they start to "go" they go fast ( I tend to play...

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

Thanks Jim, yes I've been known to play the mandolin as well, can't really do Ashland or Dawg Daze on octave anyway, got hooked on that Dixie Hoedown, Phillips Grier and Flinner did it live up in...

  18. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

Nice post Brunello97, "American" music is awash with the Blues and its pentatonic form. Blues in itself is a hybrid form, what I wonder is were West African people using the same musical scale as in...

  21. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

On the whole too much Johnny Cash thing, I agree they could have cut some of that and covered some other artists, but ask someone who is not into country music to name a county music star. Will they...

Re: Disappointed with the Nashville music scene

I have to say the Ken Burns Country dock did "learn me up" on the Nashville music scene history. No disrespect to Chet Atkins, but adding in the lushy strings and jazzy piano to country music, for...
  23. Re: Please talk about your experience with the Mandola.

I did the Artistsworks Mike Marshall lessons for a bit, the video I submitted was Cuckoo's Nest on mandola.
Mike's main point to me was -try not to do what you would on a mandolin when playing...
