  1. Re: Looking for Music Documentary Recommendations

The Transatlantic Sessions have some great stuff on them - US and UK acoustic musicians holed up in various locales in Scotland, with Jerry Douglas and Aly Bain masterminding. Six volumes total.

  3. Re: Two Hornpipes: Rights of Man and Off to California

Hornpipes are instrumental tunes in 4:4. To me (and there are certainly other points of view) hornpipes often have a swing rhythm, while reels are played with even 8th (etc.) notes. Hornpipes tend...
  4. Re: Two Hornpipes: Rights of Man and Off to California

Thanks for listening, John. I learned that one from the Fiddler's Fakebook years ago, and then about forgot it. But it floated to the top of my consciousness recently and so I decided to put a...

Thanks for listening. It's a fun tune to add some swing to.

    Re: Timing issues

I'm reminded of Charley Patton, who rarely played a 12 bar blues when he was playing solo. He often put in a couple of extra beats at the end of a line, and wound up with "13 1/2 bars". But when he...

    Re: If you jam . . . .

    You'd be fine by me.

Years ago I took a workshop presented by Seth Rosen, a departed musician that I miss. Seth talked about playing "secondary rhythm", meaning that in many band/jam situations...

I play 'em all the time. But I'm not generally playing bluegrass, where chop chords are usually standard.

    Re: Dammit!

I popped a tendon in my left hand a few years ago - splinted for 3 months (but no surgery, thank goodness). I worked on lap steel.

So maybe some slide mando for a while?
