  1. Re: Land's End. Tim O'Brien cover with free notation

John's a pro. Got to pick with him a little at the Bywater before it closed. He's a fine fiddler as well.
  2. Re: anyone change their plain steel high strings faster than wrap

I do that with D'addario Nickle Bronze because the G and D strings keep that woof for a long time but the treble side wear out like usual.

Re: Your Thoughts On D'Addario XT Strings

I just put these on for the first time thanks to Philfool for giving them to me. First impression is they sound like new J74's. a little brassy which I expect to last for a couple of days. So far I...

    Re: Irish Metronome

The beat comes from the metronome. The style (musicality)comes from you. The best thing is to listen to a LOT of Irish music. Get it in your head so you can sing it. My grandmother used to sing Irish...
  11. Re: Tag at the end of lines in Mansion for me

Right, and if you slide from Bb to B you add that bluesy sound that Bill played a lot. Bill liked to play inside chord shapes like that.
  12. Re: Tag at the end of lines in Mansion for me

Ok Liam I just listened to this again. It sounds like he is playing arpeggios inside of the three finger chop chord. Are you familiar with that? It's in 3/4 time in the key of G. Start with the G...

I took some classes from Niles up in Virginia many years ago. Very interesting feller. At the time he was interested in how the human brain learned, plasticity, and muscle memory, so he was teaching...

    Re: On-Line Jamming Apps?

I've used Skype for one-on-one videos but I don't know if you can pull multiple people into that. Zoom doesn't work well because the volume drops out probably due to bandwidth limitations, and jammr...

  21. Re: East Tennessee Blues by Joe K. Walsh & Aaron Weinstein

One last comment on this learning exercise. I find that once in a while I still hit a glitch in my playing on this tune. I have moved on to use this technique on Daley's Reel now and I started...

Re: Chop - hold/release or just mute?

Eventually you'll want to be able to chop in all these different ways. In a band setting, when the banjo (loud) is taking his break I'll chop with the chord ringing out a little to be heard over the...
