Re: Phone Holder for Music Stand

I assume the music stand has music on it. How about a second music stand, directly behind and adjusted slightly higher.

    Sight-reading resource

There's a free notation program called MuseScore. I've used it for years, and it's really good open-source software.

Recently, I used it to write out a bunch of scales and arpeggios. Might as...

    Acoustic Image

I'm so impressed with this company.

I have a Corus seres III amp that I really like. I bought it used on e-bay 9 or 10 years ago. I like everything about it: sounds great for mandolin,...

    Ol' Time Atonal

Mando kicks it off. Best banjo solo EVER.

(I searched "atonal" and didn't see this. Apologies if it's already posted somewhere.)...

    Re: Note Performer

Dude! That sounds awesome. You totally got the John Williams template going on.
Are you a composition student? A composer? Those are some pricey mastering tools, btw. Beyond my scope...

    Re: Note Performer

The plugin is from a 3rd party developer in Sweden. Evidently betting all his chips on Sibelius staying in business.

When I listen to the Sibelius Chamber sounds, mixed as good as I can get it...

    Note Performer

For any Sibelius users (version 6 and later) there is a plugin called Note Performer.

    Is anybody using this?

I just got the free trial. Cost is $129 USD. It came out in 2013. (!)

    Attaching...

Re: Songwriting: How do YOU find your melody?

I've been reading this thread with considerable interest. Joined a songwriting group last month, and I'm on the lookout for ideas.

I've written maybe 3 dozen songs over the years, about 8 of them...
  11. Re: Relative Major & Minor / Parallel Major & Minor??

Sorry, I got carried away there. I almost went back to edit out most of that; but just ignore it.

What I should have said is just the two things: parallel minor and relative. Where the E major...
  12. Re: Relative Major & Minor / Parallel Major & Minor??

Been thinking about the original thread questions, while looking at a cool old tune.
I'm attaching a chart of chords only. So no copyright foul; the same exact chords are used in other songs.147631...
  13. Re: Relative Major & Minor / Parallel Major & Minor??

I've never heard of a person dying from too much music theory. So you're safe. In theory.

I have heard of music suffering from too much theory. Dissecting a song can be like an autopsy: you...
  14. Re: Relative Major & Minor / Parallel Major & Minor??

C major and A minor are related, but they don't always get along real well.

Look at some songs in the key of A minor. You will see some G sharps in the melody. That's because the 5 chord is E7....

    Re: Modes are so confusing

This Cafe forum is such a cool place. I've been hearing some gorgeous Indian Classical music in movies lately, by the way.

"Music Theory" is a misleading term. It should be "Mechanics of Western...

    Re: Modes are so confusing

I can only agree with the OP.
Modes became helpful to me after I knew keys (sharps, flats, key signatures, circle of fifths etc.) and basic harmony. Then I could understand modes as another way of...

Re: Jam Origin MIDI Guitar thing

Well yes, there is that. I've used a laptop on gigs for keyboard midi.

I'm still pondering the possibilities, now that all my instruments have become midi controllers. I'm primarily a violinist,...

Sorry, I didn't understand your first reply. I thought you were using some variant of the Jam Origin software.

Their software interprets pitch to midi, without any other hardware. Well, besides...

Re: Jam Origin MIDI Guitar thing

I didn't know there was such a thing as pitch to midi. This looks like a game changer for me.

I'm putting a Graphtech Ghost acoustic system in a strat. Been studying midi options and thinking...

    Jam Origin MIDI Guitar thing

I just tried this crazy thing and it seems very promising. I only got the free trial; the full version is 99 USD.
Plugged in the mandobird and had a blast. I'll probably buy it.

    Re: Portable Amp/PA Power

I saw a street duo in San Francisco, circa 1988, using a little Honda generator to power a keyboard and amp. It was a very quiet generator, but still audible over electric piano and sax. The duo...

    Re: Apple Logic Pro X

Respectfully disagree. Depends on your budget and what you need the computer to do.

I recently bought a refurbished macbook pro. It's the 13" which came out in 2012; has a 5400 rpm hard disc and...
