    Howard Frye

Really enjoy listening to Howard Frye play the mandolin on his album Gypsy Mandolin. What a great talent he was playing his Gibson Snakehead A Junior mandolin.

Did Howard have any other albums?...

    Re: Saturday night vinyl vault

I wonder who has Red's Gibson A-4 mandolin? I know Sam Bush has Jethros Gibson. Sam recently played it on YouTube videos doing Jethro and Homer tunes.

    Re: Saturday night vinyl vault

Good stuff! I have been listening to Homer and Jethro a lot. And Jethro and Red Rector. Listen to them when I am at work and the gym. Makes the work day much better.

    Re: Crossrock Mandolin Cases

I bought one of their A style cases from Amazon. Great case for the money. I like the blue interior of the case that I bought. A lot of the less expensive mandolin cases have the black interior which...

Re: Flatiron A-5 Artist, 1,500 should I get it?

I think you did just fine. I had a Carlson signed Gibson A5G years ago that had the dipping fretboard extension. It never caused me any problems. Played and sounded good like your Flatiron.

Re: XT we barely new ya!

I ordered two sets of Mapes strings. Custom gauges. $6.00 a set seemed like a good deal to me. Hopefully will receive them this week.

Makes me cringe to see a vintage Gibson mandolin in that condition. Hopefully someone can bring it back to life.

Tragically Mr. Derrington is no longer with us. He is probably picking some tunes with Bill Monroe in heaven.

Charlie Derrington brought Monroe's Loar back to life. What an incredible job he did!

The top looks salvageable, maybe. Probably best to replace the back and sides. Those are some horrible cracks. Talk about a basket case.

    Re: Pawn Shop F5L

I remember that. It was around the same time that Mike Compton had his 1927 Gibson Snakehead A Junior for sale for $6,000.

I agree. I just bought a 1924 Snakehead A-Jr a couple weeks ago for a great price. It plays and sounds great.

John please give me your feedback on both the Blue Chip XR and the Two Jazz Picks. Do you like the point on the Jazz picks?

Also you can contact the luthier and get his feedback. It won't last long at that price.
