Re: ID the wood on this Sovereign?

Nice looking Sovereign! I was looking through my instrument photo file and recalled that I used to own a Sovereign (with pearloid fretboard):

    Re: Trading

My favorite swap was this past year from the cafe' classifieds: a listing for an F-4 from a party in the next state to me. I asked if he was interested in trading and he stated he was selling to get...

    Re: Fiebing's red leather dye

I used it for this project. This is before adding tru-oil, which did darken it.
  4. Re: on Reverb: When a scroll isn't a scroll, or is it?

True, although this is the 1st "Mickey Mouse" with a scroll relief carved or pressed (or glued on?) that I've seen.

Re: 1906 Gibson F-4 "tree of life" mandolin

The condition and tree of life make it fairly rare. I'm not sure of the price either.
  6. on Reverb: When a scroll isn't a scroll, or is it?

On Reverb, an Ibanez mandolin. I personally haven't seen one of these before.

Ebay mandolin, slice of swiss anyone?

I know there has been a thread of unusual shaped mandolins in the past. I guess this one belongs in that gallery:

When the first album came out, a friend brought it over to our apt. with great excitement stating he didn't know what to call this style of music. I just remember turning the volume up a bit on the...

    Re: Happy Birthday Jim Simpson

Awe geez, thanks Jim and Mike! I miss the jam in Sellersville too. I had a good run as host for 15 years before returning to West Virginia. I did make it up to Wind Gap last year and got to see so...
  12. Re: Stewmac shipping outrageously expensive and NOT eco-responsib

It used to be that you needed a minimum to order from Stew-Mac so I would sometime check with friends who also needed stuff so I could put an order together to make it more economical. These days, I...

    Re: Anyone seen this before

As Mike suggests, taking some off of the bottom of the extension wouldn't hurt. It looks like the end of the fingerboard has come loose from the neck. Shouldn't be too hard to fix. Good luck!

    Re: Brentrup Prices Up?

I just love this particular design! I would want it to sound great too but wow! Not as radical looking as the Giacomel:

    Re: Exposed Bushings

Firstly, I like long threads like this, lol! I changed out the sloppy tuners on my F5-L, I found the new bushings to be a close fit but not easy to push in. I put an oversize drill bit in my drill...

Good eye! You're probably right about the Guild inclusion. Nice to see a reproduction is available. Parts of my poster has really faded.

Re: Post a picture of what's on your bench?

Here's a shot of my F-4 with strings off. Had to reglue lateral brace. Fortunately didn't seem to be any sinkage. Hanging to dry in the background is my F-4 inspired build.

  23. Re: Travelite Case - doesn't close without applying pressure. Nor

I guess the challenge would be separating the inside fabric from the core foam. The foam itself could be contoured with a knife and/or sanding disc. Once re-contoured, the fabric could be re-glued to...
  24. Re: Travelite Case - doesn't close without applying pressure. Nor

I thought Silver Angels were a bit bigger than std. size. I know of a friend's example and it is. See if you can put another brand F-5 mandolin in the case to see how it fits.
