    Re: E string constantly breaking

I had the same problem with my mystery name pac rim beginner mando. A bit of careful filing at the tuning peg hole and a couple strokes of very fine sandpaper at the nut slot fixed it for me.

    Re: Attention Silverangel owners

I received my SA from Ken about a year ago. Based on his recommendation I strung it with J75s and was blown away by the volume. It didn’t take me long to acclimate to the heavier strings.

    Rainbow Connection
Also Star of the County Down is often played in 3/4. Beautiful tune. Howard Levy did a lyrical harmonica version on one of the Flectone albums, Cosmic Hippo I think.

I know your pain. It just takes time. I started playing with a friend during social time before our Lions club meetings got underway. I knew 3 chords and basically faked my way through tunes. I was...

Re: How to approach practicing and improvement?

Another approach: Matt Flinner occasionally offers an online course devoted to practice techniques. Check his website. Frequently there’s a link on the cafe.

Another vote for Matt Flinner. I find the structure of his courses suit my learning style. Each course (videos, charts and mp3) can be downloaded and saved. I’m still referring to past material. He...

Re: Playing with others of different skill levels

Also, between jams try playing along with YouTube videos. You can use the “gear wheel” at lower right to slow tunes down. Programs such as iReal Pro can provide you with accompaniment for any tune....

    A great choice. I fully enjoy my 2004 615.
  12. Re: Top classical pieces every mandolin player should know

There are no classical pieces I should learn. I enjoy listening to classical, and had plenty of classical playing time (trombone) in bands, brass choirs, vocal choirs, and orchestras. I took a...

    Re: Intentionally Imperfect Tuning

In the beginning I used imperfect tuning as a test of hitting both strings in a course. If it sounded funky, I knew I was getting 2 strings together.

    Re: Are Eastmans a keeper?

I'm at least the 3rd caretaker of a 2004 Eastman 615. It has served me well as I've honed my modest skills. After a recent refret and installation of a CA bridge, it exhibits significantly improved...

In March, Ken had a trade-in that he offered for sale. I waffled, but finally decided to go for the free trial. Done deal. The tone has been accurately described by others and was what I was seeking....

Re: D'Addario Strings - Ask Us Anything

String tension: EXP77 vs EXP74. I note that the tension is a higher value on the 3rd and 4th strings in the 74 set. What is the result of the higher tension?
