    Re: Your "Ah-ha!" Moment?

I hope you are not teasing about playing "Take On Me". I don't think I would play it myself but I'd love to hear it played :)

Re: New to Octaves, a few observations

I have guitar strings on my Octave - it's a 23" scale, so ludicrously long - actually too long for regular octave mando strings, it turned out.

I'm not sure what my Octave Mando's string gauges...

    Accidentally got a Weber Sage.....

    Hey!!

Over the St. Patrick's weekend, a good (very good) friend of mine announced she was selling her Weber Sage #1. She had this instrument shipped to Finland from near where I was born, as...

Re: What's the use of an e-mando?

Awesome!! I hadn't seen this thread at all, but happen to have an electric mandolin, which I love :)

Have fun with the experimentation - I play my mandobird mostly late at night when everyone else...

Re: New Player + Mandolin thoughts

    Howdy Ho Elkers!

I'm also in Europe, and can confirm that many of the mandolin café sponsors do excellent rates on shipping to the EU.

Sure that Mando of yours is a good one for learning on....

Re: How to practice the mandolin.

I picked up music again after a gap of several years - the one big piece of advice I'd offer is one of things fatt-dad says: play with other people. Lack of people is why I stopped, finding people...

    Re: Solid Body Mandos

    I have a mandobird VIII!

I got it new last month from a German online seller. I contacted 3 or 4 places who all said that they would get more in soon, but the German shop had it in and sent it...

Re: Holding and using the pick

I personally love playing with my fingernails - of course they are a lot quicker and less prone to dropping than regular pricks. My music guru told me that while it's OK to do that, you should at...

    Re: 3 LaPlants

I'm going to go for #106 because of the dark color and the cutesy wooden tuning pegs, but I think #132 sounds a tiny bit nicer :)

    Re: My Amazing Russian Mandolin

    Hey!

I'm finding that as soon as I stopped worrying about plucking the two strings and got used to the frets being close together, I'm loving the mandobird. And I can play it in the middle of the...
