Interesting. I couldn’t find anything that was big enough for the bowl and I thought I gave it a pretty good look. I was limited on the amount I was willing to spend, however.

String Swing accommodated me by putting a longer “stem” on the hook, like they do for the hangers for Jumbo Guitars. Claudia helped me and hangers were shipped the next day. Worked out perfectly!
I was having no luck finding a gig bag for my Washburn Bowl Back and then accidentally found one! In Spain. The downside is they don't ship to the US, only within the EU, but the price was good...
Thanks, Nick. The cool thing is that the only thing they did do the mandolin was put it in the humidifier for a week, clean it, re-glue the edging on part of the fretboard (it hadn't broken off, but...
Coolest thing! I was trying to figure out the best way to hang the bowl back. Turns out String Swing will modify the UK/Mando hook by putting a longer stem on it (like they do for the Jumbo Guitar)...
I got an Eastman 304 at The Mandolin Store earlier in April and it has the cast tailpiece. I love the mandolin, but everyone thinks the sound on my 1905 Washburn bowl back is better 😂
Got the vintage Washburn back last night. $140 to humidify it for six days, clean it up, blow dust out of it (I guess that’s how they did it), glue the border for the fretboard (was coming loose in...
Got it! The book is certainly a wealth of information. I've already gotten my money out of it even if I never open it again!
Changed for better or worse? Not clear on what you mean. I do love the book and all the information in it. It indicates the Washburn mandolin came out in mid to late 1880’s after guitar which was...
Allen, I hear you loud and clear. This mandolin lived in California its first 96-97 years, then in Arizona for the next 16 and ongoing. We never heard of the humidity issue until I took it into the...
Thanks! Helpful information from both of you! I’m definitely hoping we can find studs to anchor board to. Thanks also for the tip about the hooks that are a bit longer.

Thanks Jim. I didn’t know if it was okay to post the link. Attached below.
Also I haven’t seen any go above minimum bid, so I didn’t consider that but clearly you’re right. Thanks for pointing that...
I know there is not full agreement in the group on whether to hang or store, but I do plan to hang my 1905-06 Washburn on display. My questions concerns how to do it.
I want to use a board a...
There is what seems to be a very nice one on eBay for $90. As near as I can tell it is a Model 115, sold in 1905. Guy played it for me (youtube) and it sounded good to me (I don't have a particularly...
So, they've taken the bowlback out of the humidifier and I went by the store today to count the staves -- it actually has 23 and is a model 140, so cost $40 back in the day. Aside from not being...
I am anything but broadly talented, so we're going to hope they really can teach an old dog at least a few new tricks!
The weirdest thing!! When I got this message, my son and I were AT The Mandolin Store (I live about an hour away and my son is on vacation so volunteered to go with me) waiting for my new Eastman 304...
I received Hubert's book (I happened to have an Amazon gift card, so the timing worked well.) Anyway, its fascinating! I really appreciate the help you have given me.
My new question is does...
That label was only used from 1905-1907.
Thanks! I will certainly do so. Buy it direct or just search online?

Terrific. Thanks for that link. Just ordered it!
I don't think I'm doing this reply thing correctly. Am I supposed to be quoting what I'm replying to? Somehow I sort of thought it did that automatically.
Nick, however did you find that information? That's amazing!!
He had the mandolin my dad's (and siblings) entire life so he had to have gotten it new. It's not like they were dirt poor, but I was surprised he had the money for that. He MAY have had a Russian...
