    Re: Fret sprout question

You will need your erasing shield when manual drafting makes a comeback. I still have all my triangles, compass, templates etc.. Just waiting for that job offer.

    Re: Fret sprout question

I have filed fret ends on many instruments over the years so you would think I would be very good at it and not nick the fretboard and generally make a mess of things but sadly no matter how hard I...

    Re: Old Woodworking Machines

    Hello,

I do not consider myself a luthier or a real woodworker. I did think at one point that I would have more time to pursue building instruments so I picked this jointer up at a thrift store....
  9. Re: String spacing for 6 string to tenor guitar modification

    Allen,
The good thing about the arthritis in my wrist is that it hasn't seemed to get worse in the last 10 years and it isn't rheumatoid arthritis. Wearing a an elastic band on my wrist helps me to...
  10. Re: String spacing for 6 string to tenor guitar modification

So I moved the strings to the middle to try it that way for a couple weeks to see if I like them there. My wife sided with you guys after I said I needed to make larger holes for the new tuners and...

    Re: Shure sm57

Minnesota state law requires that you own an SM57 and an SM58 before buying a condenser mic or pickup.

My wife and I have had these for 25+ years.
  12. Re: String spacing for 6 string to tenor guitar modification

The tuners work but I have to put a rubber band between the 2 unused ones to keep them from rattling. Replacing the 6 original tuners is not necessary for function, but more for aesthetics, although...
  13. Re: String spacing for 6 string to tenor guitar modification

    Prof Chris,

I tried option 1 and it seems to be playable. The strings I had lying are round are too heavy so I have ordered a lighter gauge set. I will follow your advice and see how things turn...
  14. Re: String spacing for 6 string to tenor guitar modification

Thanks for the reply. Because of arthritis in my left wrist, I can't handle a six string anymore. I concentrate on my mandolin, a tenor tuned GDAE, and my ukuleles. I want to tune this one DGBE so I...
  15. String spacing for 6 string to tenor guitar modification

    Greetings,

My wife has given me permission to modify her father's 1960's Gibson LG0 to convert it to a tenor guitar. I am not going to change the neck, only the nut and saddle. I am looking for...

Re: GDAE Saddle for Kala KA-GTR

After you switch to GDAE tuning, check your intonation and if it is noticeably off you will need to have the saddle compensated by a professional or watch a lot of videos and try it yourself.

Re: String recommendations for 1928 Gibson TG-0

Good idea about the calipers. I don't like to do anything without really thinking it over, so after playing stringed instruments for over 50 years I just ordered one from StewMac.

I am trying to resist "Tenor Acquisition Syndrome". This tenor is good enough for me to work with. My wife and I have an unwritten rule that we can only own as many
    instruments as we can squeeze...
