Re: George Frayne (Commander Cody), RIP

Years ago I watched a video on the Cafe that showed someone with a mandolin covering Hot Rod Lincoln. Can’t find it anywhere. Anybody know how to locate it? Would love to learn it.
  3. Re: F model oval holes: Northfieod F2S, Collings MFO, Gibson F2 a

I bought a Gretsch Park Avenue F with oval hole and electronics a few years back. Love it. Great tone and playability, and it is loud. All solid wood, excellent craftsmanship, especially for a...

    Re: New player - Mandolin

I would never buy an Ibanez having had a bad experience with one a few years back that Was an F model with a solid top and laminate sides and back. Horrible, thudding dull sound with no tone or...
  5. Re: The mandolin is more than just a folk instrument

I play a lot of 70’s era “Rock,” Beatles,
America, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, and especially Seals and Crofts. Early S&C got me hooked on the mandolin. Dash Crofts...

Re: listing of rock songs w/mando

I think of Seals and Crofts in the 70’s as introducing the mandolin in “Soft rock” music as pioneers. Dash Croft’s use of the mandolin is downright amazing, especially in the early albums. I also...

    Re: Gretsch, Breedlove, or Other?

I have a Gretchen Park Avenue oval hole F model which I love, but I don’t think they are being made. It’s loud but perhaps not so mellow. I also have an oval hole A Eastman, which practically plays...

    Re: John Prines mandolin player.

Not sure what there is to dislike about John's mandolin player. Seems like a great accompanist in the video clip. More importantly, best I've heard John sing in years. Prime is a national treasure.
  14. Re: New computer, where are the free sheet music sites?

    Chordie and Chordify.
  15. Re: Bob Dylan 2016 Nobel Lecture in Literature - NMC

Just read that Dylan lifted much of this "Lecture" from Cliff Notes or some such source. I found it painful to listen to and can't imagine anything so incoherent coming from such a reputable source....

  17. Re: Cat Stevens: If you want to sing out, sing out

Love the song, ( like all his catalog ). A lot of his songs' tabs are on Chordie.com. BTW, just saw him in Nashville for the Cat's Attic tour. Amazing! Sings and plays with the passion and...
  18. Re: Rem - losing my religion and other rock songs

    Re: Ibanez M522s F style

I bought an Ibanez F style with a solid top and it played awful. Gave it away. Thuddy, awful sunburst finish, nut cut incorrectly, I could go on. Run away from Ibanez!

50 years from now people will say Paul McCartney was playing in my space pod last night. They will have NO idea who Kanye West was.
