    Re: Advice on a Mandola?

I bought an Eastman OM. I love it capoed at the fifth fret (mandola scale). I might buy a higher end OM and do the same thing. Seems like the perfect solution to me.

    Captain of the Lost Waves

I couldnít find mention of this anywhere on MC. Hard to know where to put it, actually. Definitely lots of mando-related content! Incredible performer. Check out YouTube videos.

  3. Re: Anyone Recognize This Octave Mando?

You recognize the maker? Looks like he removed the e strings to call it an OM.
  4. Re: Anyone Recognize This Octave Mando?

Ok, the player is Tom Kimber....but what is he playing?
  5. Anyone Recognize This Octave Mando?

I love the sound of this OM. That tune is also great...apparently original. Who is this guy?!?
  6. Re: "The Peacock's Feathers"// 2005 Gibson A9

Some versions are minor sounding....not yours.
  7. Re: "The Peacock's Feathers"// 2005 Gibson A9

They are on Sessions...if I can pick the right one.
  8. Re: "The Peacock's Feathers"// 2005 Gibson A9

Really, nice lively tune, perfectly executed! I gotta learn that one!

    Re: Specific Pick Direction Question

I just sat down with a metronome set at 40bpm (as low as mine goes). That would put your eighth notes at 80bpm. I played a string of eighth notes both DD and DU. At that tempo, DD felt “more...
  11. Re: Practicing the swing feel for Irish music

Simon, I just listened to your version of LITD on YT. (That is you, right?) Great swinging rhythm right there, if you ask me! Enough to make me want to learn that tune!

    Re: Finally My First Break/Solo

IMHO, the thing that really stands out to me is that you ARE DOING IT. Not being afraid to put it out there, asking for comments/help is a huge step towards improving! Soon, someone more qualified...

    Re: Norman Blake Tunes

Nicely played! And what a pretty F-2!
  14. Re: Leo Kottke on 10-string -- "William Powell"

Excellent! You really got the Kottke flavor. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone else try a Kottke tune on mandolin!
  15. Re: interesting pickguard hardware on Ebay Gibson

The guard looks more like a cutting board than a pick guard.

Re: Octave Mandolin - capo question

Why you would buy an octave mandolin, then want to make it sound like a mandolin? I do love playing mine capoed at the fifth fret. As Mike says, CGDA.

    Re: NMD Pomeroy Oval

I disagree about that justice. Great tune, nicely played on a very beautiful looking and sounding mandolin.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Mandolin Find

Maybe everyone else knew who rcc56 is. I almost always read his posts and find them to be among the many very informative and most useful posts here. And now an endorsement from Norman Blake!...

    Aren’t you overlooking CGDAE?

    Re: Eastman Octave MDO-305

I just got mine today! (Used, but perfect!). Mine has a strap button on the heel, but I’ve never been able to adjust to that configuration with any instrument. (Must be something wrong with me.) The...

  24. Re: Collings MT-O v Gibson A: Any Opinions?

I own a beautiful black-face Collings MTO. Itís a wonderful instrument, but very different than those old Gibson As. When I acquired my MTO, I passed my own plain, beat up 1920 Gibson A to my...
