    Re: RIP Tony Rice

In the early 80’s, a friend sent me a cassette tape of Tony’s Manzanita album, and that was my introduction. His singing and playing made me an instant fan. Years later, and after he lost his voice,...

    Re: Compulsive purchase- Flatiron 1N

[Wow! That's a sweet mandolin! I'm also drawn to the 5-latch case as ultimate security for these pancakes! Just so right!

I'd also be quite curious about the koa sound! I can already tell, it's...

Iíve owned a few of these over the years but not in recent times. That changed with this Koa back and sides March 1986 model. Came with the 5 latch case. Incredible tone and playability....

F-D w/o a Pancake is just wrong on many levels. Glad to see this thread still up and moving!

Re: David Grisman videos from RockyGrass

Sam Bush paid a nice tribute to Vassar during the Old & in The Way set. Such an incredible weekend of music in an amazing setting. Wish it wasn’t another year away!
  7. Re: Gibson F9 neck reset and total overhaul

I just ran across this thread yesterday as the Mandolin featured here is up for sale. Yes, if you do a search for Hogan Mandolins you will see some pictures of #7 that Adrian built for me. Adrian...
  8. Re: Why I go to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival whenever I can..

I've been to Telluride a few times but never for the BG Fest. I always thought it would be fun but I saw pictures of the crowd from this year and it gave me pause. Maybe it's a sign of getting older...

    Re: Sierra Hull Concert

Saw her play at Frontier Park in Olathe, Kansas back in June. First time I've seen her play live. She and Eathan put in a fantastic show. Incredible musicianship and Sierra certainly has the vocal...

    Re: question about classified section

Your best chance of selling this Mandolin is probably through an online transaction. I've bought and sold a number of instruments over my many years here and I only had one bad experience - although...

    Re: question about classified section

You don't seem to be cut out for making a sale of this amount online. Selling via consignment is probably your best way to go. Good luck!

    Re: Flatiron Festivals??

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a fun session. Nothing like a good Mando tasting. My wife thinks all Mandolins sound the same :)

A fair comparison would involve new/same strings on both and the same pick. Have fun!

    Re: Flatiron Festivals??

Great question but I don't think there is a clear cut answer. When you compare the Bozeman made Flatirons to the Nashville Flatirons, you are not making an apples to apples comparison. There are very...

    Re: Flatiron Festivals??

The Flatiron Festival was made during their run in Montana. It was made with a Mortise and Tenon neck joint and what they called an integrated fretboard. It wasn't an elevated fretboard as it was...

  21. Re: Selling 2001 flatiron festival f style to purchase phoenix se

I don't think anyone here can make that call for you. I owned 2 Nashville made Flatiron Festival F's and they were very good Mandolins. I've only played one Phoenix Mandolin and that was at Mandolin...

The 1890 newspaper report gave me a good laugh! That person just needed to loosen up a bit and go join the fun.

Back in 2005, Mass Street Music was gracious to host a Mando Brunch. The second floor of the historic building was all Mando content with dozens on Mandolins on display. There were some builders in...
