  1. Re: Taking my new '84 Flatiron Bouzouki for a spin on some jigs

Thanks! That tenor actually turned out to be a real disappointment and ended up being returned - the saddle and bridge had both been slotted to account for the neck bow and it needed a neck reset......
  2. Taking my new '84 Flatiron Bouzouki for a spin on some jigs

Still getting used to the scale, but I'm really enjoying it - has a nice sound. Grabbed here on the Cafe.

    Re: Gibson TG-1 - 1929

Yes, very. I talked to the seller, who sent me a prepaid shipping label to send it back and is issuing a full refund. I think it needs a neck reset and new saddles, so outside of what I want to get...

Well... I think it's 88 years of string tension causing an excess of relief, and with no truss rod, they just kept dropping that thing.

    Re: Gibson TG-1 - 1929

Got this yesterday... I'm sorry to say I'm sort of underwhelmed. The saddle has been cut back a lot - slotted to lower the action, to the point that the wood of the bridge has been cut back to allow...

Re: Tenor bridge pin/string gauge mismatch

I remembered I had a spare set of grooved pins, so I threw them in there - working fine.

    Tenor bridge pin/string gauge mismatch

Hoping someone has some good advice here...

I just got a 1929 Gibson Tenor, and I want to tune it GDAE, so I'm trying to put a .045 gauge string in here for the G... and the hole won't allow this...

    Re: Gibson TG-1 - 1929

Yeah, I've got enough different stuff around here to play around a bit and figure out what I like, then I had thought of doing individual strings to make my own sets as well.

    Re: Gibson TG-1 - 1929

Oh, or A (.045), G (.026), B (.017), E (.013) based on those links... those links are enormously helpful, thank you.

    Re: Gibson TG-1 - 1929

I've got a 3 pack of .013 - .056 that aren't my normal guitar gauge... looks like EAGB would be... .056, .045, .026, .017. Ought to work. Thanks for insights.

Just got off the phone with the shop, went through everything on the phone - all the cracks are repaired, frets are good, bit of relief on the neck but very playable, said it sounds great (sounded...

Yeah, I felt the price was high as well - offered a significant chunk less.

Sound clip was this guitar, which is slightly different - bridge isn't the same, etc., but does sound nice:

Man, why were those not coming up in my searches?

Looks like my search was 'Gibson Tenor Guitar', and these come up under TG-1 specifically... hrmmmm... that first one doesn't look half bad.

It's hard to find anything to compare against it price wise, so I'm sort of in the dark on actual value?
  18. Re: A new version of the Session King tenor, the Tenor-SK advance

These are incredible looking and sounding, Nigel. Wow. I imagine getting one shipped to the states is quite the (expensive) endeavor?

    Gibson TG-1 - 1929

Been looking for a tenor after going round and round about octave mandolins, selling my regular mandolin and playing a bunch of tunes on my guitar in the interim.

Saw this 1929 Gibson TG-1 that...
  21. Re: anyone handled/played one of these Northfield Octave mandolin

I'm assuming you got this by now?

Curious on thoughts from you or anyone who has one. I've been looking at octaves, and sound wise after combing youtube, this seems to be vastly better sounding...
  22. Re: Northfield Mandolins "Deluxe Airloom" fiberglass Cases

I got one about a month ago, and I have my Collings MT2 in there - fits perfectly. I'm very happy with the case.

Yeah... just... bigger than I was hoping. I was wondering if someone made the equiv of a LR Baggs Para DI with an XLR in and phantom... maybe not.
